RE: Fellow Okies........
I have to admit I' ve not seen much on this as a helpful idea. Can you breifly tell your reasons for your your opinion?
|
RE: Fellow Okies........
I wouldn' t mind a one buck limit, as long as I could take 4 or 5 Does along with that.
Of course, then I' d be pretty upset if I shot a 6 pointer on opening day and a few days later see a 12 point new record standing there and I couldn' t shoot it. Toytaco, I think its because the majority of bucks taken each year are very young and we' d all like to see a more mature herd. |
RE: Fellow Okies........
i' d be in favor of a 2 buck limit even an earn a buck rule and keep the bag limit the same.
|
RE: Fellow Okies........
I don' t think the state of OK has a shortage of bucks, therefore, I' d rather see an antler restriction rather than decreased back limits. I would be nice if they would go ahead and increase the doe limit.

RE: Fellow Okies........
I wouldn' t have a problem with a one buck rule, but, I do wonder how much impact it would have since (IMO) a large percentage of our bucks are taken by muzzle loaders and rifles who take only their buck and do not take advantage of the opportunity to take a doe also. The " earn a buck" plan is new to me but it sounds like it could have potential to help balance the herd.
As far as Texas is concerned, I hope we never get to that point in Oklahoma where almost all good hunting opportunities are on high dollar ranches and leases even if it means smaller numbers of " trophy" deer. |

RE: Fellow Okies........
I think if you want to build the buck population they might as well go all the way. Give them some restrictions and protect the younger. I don' t like " Earn a buck" per say, but think the idea of less bucks and more does is good. I' d just hate to have to pass a monster 10 because I hadn' t shot a doe yet. Let me decide when to shoot the buck if it' s going to be ONLY ONE. Does are easy. You can whack them anytime.
|
RE: Fellow Okies........
i dont want to pass up a heavy bodied buck because his antlers dont add up,with earn a buck the hunter gets more time to be in the stand checking out the bucks yeah i' d hate to pass up a ten point, but having to wait until you shoot a doe some hunters might hold off on the smaller bucks that they would have shot because it was the first deer they seen and hope for the 10 point to walk back by.oklahoma wants hunters to take does.

RE: Fellow Okies........
Well im a first time bow hunter this year but i will say this our buck doe ratio is way outa wack ne one plan on taking more than 2 does with your bow if i get the oppertunity to take more than my limit on does i am goin to do that to help with the buck doe ratio :D
|
RE: Fellow Okies........
if i get the oppertunity to take more than my limit on does i am goin to do that First, let me say that I hope I never wind up hunting near you. Second, I hope the local game ranger finds your butt and sticks it in the slammer. You' re not a hunter, you are a POACHER!!! |
RE: Fellow Okies........
danny he probably meant his fair share. 4 deer allowed in archery no more than 2 bucks, 6pt you can take 4 does if you want
|
RE: Fellow Okies........
I think it should be 2 bucks, 4 does. If you shoot a buck, you must then shoot a doe to shoot your second buck. They also need to get rid of the 16 day gun season, i think thats going to screw a lot up. But, thats just my opinion. The state needs to do something though. We need to get across that does need to be taken and little bucks need to walk.

RE: Fellow Okies........
I don' t think the state would gain much from going to a 1 buck a season only. The reasoning behind this is that I know some hunters who would go out and get the 1 buck and not hunt for the rest of the seasons. They have this mentality that a doe is just not worth the drag out of the woods.
I feel to really help get the ratio back under control OK needs to go to the earn a buck policy. This will force the hand of the other hunters who refuse to make an effort to take does. When growing up in East Texas in the 70' s and 80' s the deer population was non-existance. I use to think their tag system was the craziest thing I had ever seen. Going back to the farm the last couple of years I am seeing more and more deer and the improvments are incrediable. Here in OK we have the deer populations, now we just need the quality and the bucks to get us there. |
