Ohio hunting and share a little about urself

How many ohio hunters do we have here? What game do you hunt and where at?
I am from trumbull county and do most all of my hunting in trumbull but spend a little time in Portage, Harrison and Asthabula. I mostly hunt private property but do hunt public as well. I do a little small game hunting but my concentration is on whitetail. I have only been deer hunting for 5 years this being my sixth coming up. I have harvested some decent bucks but nothing huge yet. I have a few of my deer pictures on my aol profile, but not many, I don' t have a scanner. Check them out and share your own if you would like.

hey buckeye, i live in western n.y. and also hunt astabula co, some nice buck' s
in your area, reason i hunt there is close prox, to the n.y. line, only about a 2 hour drive for me, i have also hunted wayne national forest straight south of you,
alot of pressure there[:@] and also one year were in coshocton co, for the first 2
days of shotgun, wow was there some shooting going on there, there were some big buck' s taken close to us, but overall i would have to avoid that area in the future, :D besides hunting my own turf this upcoming season, will be in lewis co
k.y. and also astabula co, have some private land there, it should be good for archery:D

Yes I have to agree with you about coshocton and all of the counties in south central to south eastern part of the state. It gets a little crazy down there in gun season. Word of advice do not go to the early muzzleloader buck only hunt down in salt fork. There are so many people you could hold hands with others from your stand!!!!! Ashtabula is a fine place to hunt deer. If you ever have the chance by all means hunt trumbull and portage counties. You know the " hole in the horn" was from portage. He was found less than 15 minutes from my house. Cool huh?? Good luck to everyone this season!!!!!

Live in Franklin Co. [:' (] But deer hunt in Licking,Perry and Muskingum Counties. One very good farm to hunt in Licking. Perry farms are tough to hunt, hit or miss. Alot of open fields and treelines. I' ll be hunting more on public this year, coal property and Wayne Nat. Tried to get some new private land this year, but struck out. Its gettin tougher than ever to do. I also waterfowl and turkey hunt.

Hello My name is Paul Ruhe J.R. I live in central Ohio and hunt mostly around here. I hunt Clark county and have hunted Pike, Jackson and Scioto counties. I love this sport and I just love to shoot my Fred Bear bow. I' m 26 years old and have only been hunting for around 3 years now. Havn' t killed any deer yet but am looking forward to it. Having a hard time getting land around my area to hunt. Noone really wants anyone to hunt or even bowhunt for that matter at all. And that stinks! I' ve rambled on enough. Happy hunting and good luck to all this coming season. Paul

I' m from Ohio also. I hunt stark, tuscawaras, carroll, and Guernsy ( Salt fork ). I bowhunt deer and turkey and some times small game. Slat fork is CRAZY during gun season. I don' t gun hunt though just bow. I' m even thinking about trying to bow hunt geese.

Hey all, I live and hunt in Montgomery county but also do alot of hunting in Carroll county.. I grew up in Carroll county and moved down here to Dayton about 4 or 5 yrs ago. I mainly bowhunt deer but also do some waterfowling during early goose and after I fill my buck tag(if I' m so fortunate). Also turkey hunt when I' ve got the time...During the spring and summer you can usually find me on the water somewhere trying to stick a arrow in some carp, gar or buffs.

I live and hunt in Guernsey Co. Hoythunter48, yes, Salt Fork is CROWDED during the gun seasons. Of course, I' m comparing it to hunting private ground. There are plenty of deer however.

RE: Ohio hunting and share a little about urself

Salt fork has a tremoundus amount of deer. They are also one of the leading counties listed in the buckeye big buck club. If you can find private land down there you are very fortuate. They have it all good pouplations of deer turkey grouse it is a " sportsmans paridise" . With the major exception of the huge amount of people that frequent it every year. Give it a try though if you live close you may be one of the lucky ones who finds a good spot that others dont frequent or better yet finds some private land. It is a pretty hefty drive for me to go down there though.

I live in Van Wert Co. up here in NW Ohio. I hunt several woods here in V.W. Co. and also do some hunting down in Hocking and Athens and Co. for an extra deer. We have the same problem up here during gun law that alot of you talked about. I HATE GUN LAW here!! I know a few guys who actually go out and sit and hunt with a gun, but it is about 95% road hunting and groups of 10 -30 guys pushing every little woods ( and most of them do NOT have permission) , with alot of radios and ATV' s thrown in the mix. Never hunted with a gun and never will. I don' t even like to be out in the light of day or hear any of the road warrior stories that entire week. I have talked a few of the game wardens about it and they hate it also. It is a shame to see the garbage that goes on. It isn' t hunting, it is slaughtering. There are several groups notorious for it around here and they are very unpopular with the true sportsmen around here. Sorry to rant but I love bowhunting so much and just can' t stand the way these jerks hunt that week.

I live & hunt in Medina County, right out my back door in 83 acres of woods. Not tons of deer, but enough to keep it interesting. There is a bruiser back there I saw last season. Hopefully he' ll walk on my side of the deadfall this year.:) Good luck to all the coming season.

Hi there. I live in central ohio. Madison county near West Jefferson.
Hunt mostly farm land of a friend. Other private land is very hard to get permission to hunt these days and public land is WWIII during gun season and bow season too many people walking around to bow hunt. there have been several good bucks taken on and around the lad where i hunt. I' ll post last years crop in here in a few minutes. Good luck and be safe.

Hey Carpn?

I live in Springboro but usually hunt in Athens. I would love to shoot Carp, gar, etc... during summer months. Where can I go for some action? Caesars creek and find the feeder streams or do you shoot in local rivers/streams?

I' m actually from Michigan...' bout half hour north of Toledo, but I' ll be bow hunting in Licking county this year at a friends place. He only gun hunts. Anyone tell me what to expect?

RE: Ohio hunting and share a little about urself

If you are hunting private land in Licking you are in a excellent place. It is one of Ohio' s to 10 counties for # of deer taken and 2nd or 3rd for entries in the Buckeye big buck club. You have much to look forward to!! Good luck.

Thanks Justin,
It is private land. 610 acres that backs up to a state park from what he told me. I' m pretty pumped. Where I hunt in MI. there are some nice bucks, but nothing like what I' ve seen coming from down there. Hopefully I won' t screw it up!:D
