I have had great success with these Mech. Broadheads, but I have read that they don' t open up quick enough.What would happen if I adjusted the retainer clips behind the blades so there is less resistance.Other Ideas???Steve

You defenitly do not want to do that. If you were to flatten those any you would be risking them opening up in flight. We owe it to the game we pursue to have clean ethical shots. You need to have 100% confidence that your equipment is in top form. We ourselfs have a large enough margin of error that equipment failure is the last thing we need. If you do not think your spitfires are up to the task I would suggest changing to a different broadhead.

I use a q-tip with vaseline on it and lube the blades, and work them back and forth to help loosen them a little.5 deer and 3 turkeys think they opened fast enough!!!

If you think they don' t open fast enough,take the retention clips OUT.Put a small rubber band, like the ones used with Rockets.This will make the Spitfires open as fast as is possible.[]

The spitfires do open slower than many mechanical heads, but they are still a high quality broadhead and they kill a lot of game every year. Yes I prefer a fast opening head, but I honestly would feel confident using the spitfire on deer. Droptines does have a good solution if it is a concern, I did this myself during some testing. Let me say that if you do use rubber bands New Archery Products will not condone or agree with this. If you do so it' s at your own risk. That said I don' t see any down side other than the inconvience of using rubber bands or O-rings. A cheaper solution would be to check out the Scorpion by NAP it is an excellent head and opens fast.

Never had a problem with them opening up to slow, I find it hard to believe that they would do that buy just looking at them and the design.

Never had a problem w/ Spitfires opening up. In fact, I always check them before putting them in my quiver to make sure they don' t open that easily. Like buckeye said, you don' t want to run the risk of them opening up in flight. Great broadhead!

I shoot the 100 gr. mechs and I think they are a good broadhead too. 5 shot - do the NAP Scorpions fly as true as the Spitfires? I like how my Spitfire flies just like my field points, what about the Scorpions?

I know a guy that hunts and has killed a grizzley bear with spitfires. He swears by them!!!

I have used them for several years with no problem. I do open and close them several times before I shoot them.all the deer I have taken with them has three slots cut in the hide on the shot side,so that tells me they are opening as soon as they should.[X(]
