I am wondering what everyone uses to check the wind. I see on hunting videos they use powder out of a little squirt bottle, but I was wondering if that is just baby powder or what. I didn' t know, even though it is a little squirt, if the deer could smell that baby powder?? I guess if you hunt against the wind, then it won' t matter. But I would like to know what hunters out here use??
Thanks and God Bless!

Thanks Dick, you have responded to my questions before and have always had good answers. I appreciate it. I will try that this year. I haven' t been on the board much, it is still golfing season. But I' m starting to get geared up for bow season. Thanks again!

I also use a thread on the end of my stabilizer....works great as a quick look.
Also, a lighter works well for a quick check......the slightest breeze will push the flame....semi orderless

I tie a thread to the limb for quick checks but I also like to carry a film canister full of dandilion seeds or the fluff from cattails. It' s pretty hilly with little ravines and stuff where I hunt and the wind really tends to swirl around. It might be hitting you right in the face and your thread may be going straight back but I' ve seen that fluff turn 180 degrees and go completely the other way when it gets 20 yards away from my stand.
I just find that it gives me a better idea of what the wind is doing.

I like the fluff too. I use a few strands of a cotton ball or a tiny piece of TP. I like the cat tail fluff idea.
The float of the fluf allows you see the wind direction down near the ground, which might quite different than 20 ft. up.
Good Luck
