Nope, Ive seen quite a few deer taken with carbon's 3 by my buddy Mark this year. He shot 2 with the same arrow, then when he was making a shot on a doe a spike buck lifted it's head at the exact moment and mark hit it in the head, instant kill, but the arrow broke when the deer had fallen on it. He wasn't to pleased because he had to use his general tag on it which he was saving, and he also lost his arrow. But carbon's are tough as nails and will do a fine job with the right broadhead and good tuning you will have no prob with deer.

belive me carbons shot from a well tuned bow with the proper broadhead are deadly!! Rest assured your carbons will get the job done, provide you do your part.

Nothing wrong with carbon arrows. Tuned properly they are just as affective if not more than aluminum. But if your not comfortable with them, theres nothing wrong with aluminum either.

I generally like to use fixed broadhead. THis past year I switched to carbons and had some problems tuning. The best broadhead that I could use with the carbons were Muzzy 75 grain. I killed two deer this past year with them but decided to go back to aluminums (2613) with a magnus broadhead. I just didn't feel confident shooting such a light arrow and broadhead. That's just my 2 cents.

I have just recently switched to carbons, as have some friends I shoot with. We all have had excellent results on deer with them. There are different wieght carbon arrows, so you do have a bit of coice there also.

I switched a few months before this last elk season and took a cow with them. She dropped 10 yards from where I hit her, and shooting over 40. I was skunked on the big mulie/blacktail this year, but if a carbon can drop an 800 pound elk, I am VERY confident it could handle any species of deer you could throw at me.

Some hunters gain a ton of confidence (myself included) with the added speed of carbons...granted, the difference is rather small and matters very little in the grand scheme of things, but if that's what it takes for you to shoot with an ego, then go for it!!!

Oregon Hunter, I am very interested in knowing your setup (poundage of bow, draw length, arrow, broadhead, and anything else you can think of). And where did you hit the Elk.

I've taken 7 deer with carbons. All have been passthrus and with no damage to the arrow. 4 of those deer were with 2.5" expandables and 3 were with 100gr Thunderheads. All you have to do is put the time into tuning your equipment....that means arrows too!

Hey Bob.

I shoot a '00 Hoyt Magna Tec Intruder, #70, 31.5" draw, carbon express-cx hunter 400 arrow, and a 3 blade 125g broadhead. She was up the mountain and just over 40 yards, and I hit her right in the sweet-spot. As I have said in other posts, there were a plethura of things that went my way which allowed me to take the shot; virtually no wind, ample time to use range finder, standing perfectly broadside, no brush or trees, etc.. And if any of those were not in my favor, I most likely would have passed.

We just moved out to oregon last year, so this was my first one! I grew up and went to college in South Dakota and Iowa, so I was born and raised a whitetail/duck/pheasant hunter. I had never even seen an elk/cougar/bear/mule deer until I came out here. The sheer size of these animals is impossible to put into words. My buddy I was hunting with used to do some guiding, so that didn't hurt one bit when it came to estimating the size of her. She was a fat ol' girl and weighed in at right around 800 lbs. on the hoof. I've taken some pretty large whitetail over the years, but when you see this thing that is 3 times that size, it blows your mind!!!

Anyway, sorry to ramble on....hope this helps out. Are you thinking of going elk hunting? Changing your set-up?
