I practice and tune year round for broadheads. I use my muzzy practice heads instead of field points. Right before season I will check my hunting arrows and do a broadhead spin test.

Think a few of you got me wrong. I fine sharpen the blades after the 1 shot, but not much more is needed. bobco, of course i practice w/ my hunting arrows and broadheads. What would be the point of shooting another arrow/field point if I don' t use them for hunting? My bow is used for hunting and the friendly competition now and then. Nothing more, nothing less. Now that i reread it, I guess i shoulda been a little clearer. What I meant to say was that i shoot my exact hunting setup all throughout the year, but before I go afield, i shoot the EXACT arrows/blades I plan on using. I shoot each once to make sure they are flying true. Sorry for the unclear explanation.

Cool, I sure as hell hope you change the blades after you take that one shot with them. Even shooting them into a target dulls the blades and they should be changed. Always use the One shot and there done ! policy.
Rob - i fine sharpen them afterwards, but it seems like they don' t usually need anything more than that. What are your findings? How much duller are your blades after you shoot once? I shoot into a foam 3D deer. Maybe it doesn' t dull them as much as what you shoot into. Not sure, could use some info though. It seems that after I make a few swipes w/ the stone, they are sharper than when they came out of the box.

I practice with the same arrow that I hunt with. After all, I tuned my bow to shoot those arrows. Terminator 4560' s. For the past month I start off my practice session by shooting a broadhead then two or three arrows with field tips to make sure they are all flying to the point of aim. I then retrieve the arrows and repeat the process several times. Since I' m shooting G5' s, I just resharpen prior to going hunting.[:-]

After hundreds of practice shots with broadheads to make sure they' re grouping well, I pair new broadheads with new arrows that spin perfectly true. Then I will put in practice blades and shoot each head/arrow combination a couple times to be absolutely sure that each combo is flying where I expect them to---it' s not always gonna work like you want. After I get 5 or 6 perfect combinations that fly great, I replace the blades and make sure they spin true. They are then used exclusively for hunting.

Cool, If I take a brand new broadhead and shoot it in to a foam target....as far as I' m conerned the blades are done and I replace them prior to hunting with the regardless of how, not so dull they seem. One shot and they are done. With the relatively inexpensive cost of replacement blades, it only makes sense to replace them. I' ve used my brand of broadheads for so many years, I have used blades that I practice with and then replace them with the new ones prior to going into the field.

Sad to say my income is limited since losing my job a few weeks ago so i have to shoot the same arrows for pratice and if i go rabbit hunting. I have more broadheads then arrows right now lol. I went shooting today and my peep sight band broke so i am going to try to get it fixed this monday. If not, i will not be sure when i will be able to pratice again[:' (]
