Thus the arrow cannot really fly

Thus the arrow cannot really fly
At any given moment, an arrow must be either where it is or where it is
not.
But obviously it cannot be where it is not.
And if it is where it is, that is equivalent to saying that it is at rest.

RE: Thus the arrow cannot really fly
The arrow is always where it is.
Your right, at any point in time, for that point in time, it is at one spot. But the arrow speed is measured in feet PER SECOND, which means that a time period is involved. As soon as you can measure speed or a rate of movement without including time, let me know, ok?

Ok. Breathe deeply. Come back to earth. That far-away galaxy will have to do without you for a little bit!

Hehe...Thanks for the clarification! That explains everything! <img src=icon_smile_shock.gif border=0 align=middle>
Where the arrow is has never posed a problem for me. But that "where it is not" deal...bad! Everytime I turned around when I was elk hunting this fall I defined that "where it is not" thingy!! <img src=icon_smile_blackeye.gif border=0 align=middle> Let me tell you it is possible to be "where it is not" and it isn't good I might add! <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

.........as quickly as you can, snatch the muzzy from my hand.........
Here's another one, grasshopper:
================================================
Two monks are walking along a rural path, discussing the suchness when they reach a large, deep puddle that blocks the path. On the other side of this puddle stands a young woman in an elaborate gown. She is clearly not from a family of means but the beauty of the garment is obvious and her face shows both expectation and angst.
Her predicament is clear to the monks.
They cross through the puddle with out further thought, for things of this earth rarely require it. When they reach the other side, the older monk snatches up the young woman and carries her across the puddle and puts her down on dry earth. The two monks continue on their ways as does she.
Time passes...
The monks walk in silence and then the younger monk speaks...
"I am troubled..."
"Troubled?" replies the older monk.
"Yes, troubled. We are monks and our devotion is to thoughts of plains unreached, and yet your actions, they were not in keeping", he says.
The older monk smiles and says, "I saw her predicament, I picked her up and carried her to dry soil and put her down..."
"Yes...?" responds the younger monk inquisitively.
"Why are you still carrying her?"
