I see some shooters post their bow speeds. But, I was wondering what speeds people with hunt with? More or Less? If most of your shots are within 30 yards what speed is enough. I would rather be able to pull back easier and less strain thatn have too much speed.

I have come to like my hunting setup in the mid 280' s. It is a combination of speed, KE, and forgiveness that works well for me

Honestly though, How much KE is enough. On some places I read that 40 ft/lbs is enogh for whitetail. Average sized whitetail is pretty much all I am going to be hunting. Right now i am getting 62ft/lbs. But wouldn' t mind turning my draw weight down just a hair. I know some peole are speed freaks and think that the faster the better but, there has to be a happy medium somewhere.

Cottonfarmer, go ahead and turn it down a littlte - you have plenty of KE to spare. I doubt that 3 lbs of DW will have a detrimental effect on your POI at 20 yds. I too like to draw smoothly - at 64 lbs.

For hunting I' ve brought it down to around 265. Flat enough and very forgiving.

I think im getting like 220 but my friends dad gets like 180 out of his recurve and he takes deer every year. I don' t think it makes that much of a difference I like my bow at 55 and i can shoot it hundreds of times a day w/o fatigue.

76lbs pull-285fps-72lbs of kinetic energy. A little high for whitetail but if a elephant comes out I`ll be set.

I just bought my new bow a couple monthes ago.......it' s rated for 319fps.
I chronoed it at the bow shop with the same arrow I' ll hunt with...265fps....I was shocked it was that low but.......those arrows sure are flying alot faster than from my old bow.....500 grain arrow @265fps.....not sure what the KE is but I think it' ll work....

I' ll probably get 250 fps or so for my hunting set-up and feel that' s fine--this is my fastest bow. My first bow maxed out at 173 fps and I always got pass-thru' s.
