After being a fixed blade snob for nearly a decade, I shot some deer and a turkey with a Wasp Jakhammer this year. I was very impressed and pleased with the results. Short and 'obvious' blood trails on both deer, and a six step retreat before the gobbler gave it up.
I went with these because over the years in the shop, I have heard good bad and ugly about every kind of broadhead made... except I'd never heard anything negative about these and knew several folks who swore by them. I'm glad I 'expanded' my horizons a bit....

The only mechanical I would personally use and have 100% confidence in is the Rocket steel head.
Having said that... are there laws in Illinois, or your locality, that prohibit you from shooting a bow in your yard? If not I'd tell the neighbors to mind their own business and continue to practice.

lol it wouldnt matter to me what the neighbors thought, as long as i know i am being 110% safe, i'd keep on shootin...
usually you can find a field ...somewhere?
i'd stay with the fixed blade..spitfires suk!!! i left fixed fer spitfires, and they are absolute crap. went back to a fixed blade...again!!

I have shot dozens of mechanical heads over the years and fell for the gimmicks like a good number of others did and I continually test a good number of them each year so I have a pretty good basis for my opinion. The fact is there are very few that I consider worth shooting.
The Rocket steel head is one of those heads. It is made out of solid steel, has a moderate cutting diameter, has thick blades that stay retained in the ferrule until impact, and has a bone splitting tip. The Wasp jackhammers that SwampCollie suggested are another good mechanical that I would have confidence in using.
I see you are still pushing the Rage though.
Not worth shooting IMO. Tekans are dull as a butter knife, bloodrunners have a penetration impeding ferrule, and gators haven't been made for years.

You recommend 2 outdated over the top expandables?
I've shot a lot of fixed heads over the years and I believe the advantages of a Rage makes it better than fixed. Is that alright that I have an opinion?
