How best to keep venison without a frig?

i have always just skined and quartered it and put on ice in a cooler. i have had it in there for 5 days. drained some of the water off a couple of times but never all the way and never had any foul tast or food poisoning. however i understand the idea of no water and think i will try it this year for the away trips otherwise i will hang them in my cooler for a week.

If you really want to avoid the meat comming in contact with the Ice or water Freeze the water in 1 gallon milk jugs and just change and/or refreeze jugs if your able.
