Default Use of deer calls pre-rut

I have never used deer calls and plan on bowhunting this weekend. Would it be advisable to use a call this early in the season? If so, what type of call, buck or doe? Also, are there any particular brands of calls that you would recommend? Any help is greatly appreciated!

IMO, nothing to loose by using grunts and/or bleats this itme of year. Just don't over use them. In other words, don't use them to the point that you have deer come looking for the source, don't give away your position by over calling when you have deer near your location.
Deer often times won't respond to calls before, during, or after the rut, but they sometimes will respond. You won't know without trying.
Also, not a bad time to do some rattling right now too.
