Default first buck with a double and lesson learned

well this was a awesome morning in the stand 7:00 am so before light i had a deer come straight to my stand 10 yards away messed around then walked straight under me and peed on my stand. then went into the next field walked around out there then came back to my stand and i looked down i could see it had bone on its head. i thought it was the 8 pointer that i have been hunting. as he was standing under me i decided to do something stupid so i try ed to draw on him well he herd me and spun around and ran out to the field that was out in front of me. i thought he was gone so i sat there trying to figure out why i did something so stupid but i looked up and i could see the outline of his head turned as he was standing in front of me trying to figure out what happen. i could make out the outline of the deer and could see the outline of antlers. he was headed north out of any other shooting lanes i had. so i drew back couldn't see my pins. but i could see the outline of the deer knew he was about 20 yards. so i drew back looked where the deer was then put my pins where i thought they should be figured if i am going to have a chance at this buck i gotta take the shot. so i hit the trigger and let the arrow fly and herd a thwack and i knew at 7:10am i shot my first buck. i seen him run off i got down after about 10 mins sneeked over to look at my arrow seen it was covered with dark blood so i knew i got a liver shot on him. i herd something walking around right in front of me in the pasture so i put the arrow back where i found it crawled back up the tree stand and called my wife told her i just shot my first buck not sure how big he was but i knew i hit the deer. then i sat in the stand and my buddie called me back at 7:45 i was telling him what happened and i herd something behind me looked back and had 6 does were 5 yards behind me. so i told my buddie that i was on the phone with to hang on sat the phone and my glove behind me stood up smoked the doe at 9 yards. i sat back down and started talking to my buddie again even tho i was talking on the phone not one doe knew i was there lol. i got down out of the out of the stand at 8:30 came home to give the buck sometime since i knew i hit him a little far back. gave him about 3 hours so at 10 i went and tracked my doe found her within 100 yards went back to track the buck. i couldn't find any blood so i called on of my good friends to come out and help me find the deer. as i was waiting on him figured since i herd something in front of me in the pasture when i was checking my arrow i would look over there. so i crossed the fence started looking for blood and couldn't find anything. so my good friend called and said he was by my truck so i was walking back to where i crossed the fence. and i looked down for some reason and i seen a couple spots of blood. so i put my hat by it went and picked up my friend on the 4 wheeler came back to start tracking from last blood found a couple more drops then couldn't find anything after that. i knew from the liver shot he bleed inside his chest cavity but i did have one thing going for me. they just got the cows out so the grass in the pasture was about 2 inches tall. but we kept looking for blood and i walked passed a tree looked and seen my buck about 200 yards away ran over there and talk about ground shrinkage. he wasn't anything that i thought he was. but he is my first buck and i am proud of him even though he is about 120 inches smaller then what i thought he was. now on the lesson that i learned was to make sure it is light enough to make sure what buck you are getting ready to take. but i got lucky and it all worked out. now the bad news is that i am done until next year and i didnt even get to hunt the rut. i couldn't get any pictures since my wife was at work and no one i called had a camera so these are the only pictures i got. i decided i am going to just do a european mount since he is to small to spend 350 dollars on to get a shoulder mount. sorry about the pics. and one more thing thank god for 4 wheelers best investment i have made for hunting.

Well congrats on the buck, but I have to say taking the shot not being able to see your pins probably wasn't the best idea... but we've all done stupid things and taken bad shots, I'm just glad that you got him.

Good job on trackin and a full freezer!.

God Bless

If it was that dark out that you couldnt see your pins was it even legal to hunt. In MD its 30 minutes before sunrise which is plenty of light to see everything.

Lesson learned but not to be too harsh that was pretty stupid.

same here 30 min before sunrise i shot him between 7:10 to 7:15 sunrise was 7:45 so i shot right on time for legal shooting if anything i was maybe 1 or 2 minutes early but like i said it was either shoot him then or not get another shot and i felt comfortable about knowing i was going to make a shot on him where i knew i would have the odds in my favor to be able to find him if i wasn't comfortable with the shot i wouldn't have taken it and even though it wasnt the deer i was thought it was i am still proud of my first buck and i wouldn't have changed anything.

i guess i should rephrase that i couldn't see my pins part. i could see them but they weren't lite up if that makes any sense?
