RE: When animals attack?
About ten yaers ago, I was in California bowhunting for hogs. I was kneeling down in the weeds up on an embankment overlooking a creekbed. The hogs would root along the creek while traveling. After a while my knees where starting to get stif and I shifted my wieght a little. When I did, I must have startled a rattle snake that had crawled up within inches of me, and he started buzzing. I just remained real still like and me eventially crawled away. Nothing like adding a little excitment to the hunt.

RE: When animals attack?
I too have a story almost unbelievable.
I would not tell it, if some one else had' nt mentioned their run in with poodles.I know as soon as you hear the word poodle, you giggle and smerk, but I' m here to tell you, their NOT a laughing matter[&o] About 8 years ago, I found a small patch of woods to hunt in Westchester county,N.Y.,,Only problem, no trees big enough to put a stand in,so I used my pop up blind. It was just getting light when I could hear something comming, and fast.I could tell they where small and low to the ground, but how many,I would' nt know untill they where right on top of me.My eyes burned into the bush, looking for the source. My mind raced.Running turkeys,a 100 rats,a pack of coons,,,what the heck. Then they broke out of the brush, 40 yards out.POODLES,,about 20 or so, totally paniced. They were all minitures, about 10 pounders, except one, a standard bred.He was bigger and I could tell he controlled the pack. They sniffed the ground, searching, looking..,for what I don' t know. The whole time I' m thinking, what the fu%k. Then, they spotted my blind.Thats when things got SCARRY.They were on me in a flash.Ripping and tearring at the blind. The big poodle stayed out about 20 yards watching, waiting. There is NO doubt in my mind he was going to come in for the kill. Their high pitch yips and snarles shot threw my head like tiny ice picks.I could feel a migrain comming on fast, but I knew I had to make my move. For some reason I knew what had to be done, so I drew back, held my 20 yard pin steady, and made one of my best shots ever. The spitfire entered just below below his jaw, going back threw the neck.Being almost decapatated, he hit the ground like a small sack of potatoes. The pack stopped ripping at my blind. They ran over to their fallen leader, circling him.Their yips turned to low whines. In a flash, he was GONE.They tore him apart and devowered him. Then as quick it started, it was over. They took off, dead silent , melting back into the bush. After vomitting twice, I grabbed bow and ran.I left the blind.I never looked back once.My hands were still shaking by the time I got home, 3 hours later. So I say, any one of you guys thinks it' s to stupid or gay to tell about your run in with wild, free ranging poodles,,well think again,,and just be glad you lived to tell the tale..[&o] |

RE: When animals attack?
I dont think this could match DROP' s but here goes, took a month off work couple
year' s ago, and bowhunted elk in C.O., by myself, alway' s carried a 357mag, with it' s highly recomended, while sleeping in small bivwack' s at very high elevation' s, you would hear stuff crashing around in the dark, M, lion, bear, elk, free roamong cattle, walking a drainage one day i hear a bull bugle about 1500' above, I' m at about 9000' aleady, so with wind in my face, start striaght up after him, after climbing about 500' , lung' s burning, leg' s quivering, stop at a small meadow, lean up aganst an aspen tree, and cow call, in the dark timber the other side of the meadow, limb' s brakeing alot of noise, out pop' s this big brown thing, lumbering low to the ground, and closing fast, not an elk, a huge cinamin color bear about 300 to 400 pound' s, runnin straight to me, ( looking for a fast meal on a calf with a cow probebly ) bear got to about 20 step' s and I screamed as loud as i could, it veered off about 90 degree' s and ran through a dead fall like a truck runnin through the side of a house, I was completly usless after that,, couldn' t stop shakin for about an hour,, [:o] ya the thing' s we do for fun :D |
RE: When animals attack?
One day, I was hunting on a good friends farm. I heard what I thought was a deer crashing through the brush[:o] so I stood up, grabbed my bow, and was just about to draw and a skunk came out.[:' (] he waddled upto my stand and found a candy bar I had previously dropped and sat down, leaning up against the tree, and ate it. once he was done he got up, sneezed, and waddled away. It was fun to watch! [:-]

I must have startled a rattle snake that had crawled up within inches of me, and he started buzzing. I just remained real still like and me eventially crawled away. In my case it would be the smell of urine that would drive the snake away. Course that would be after I passed out![&:] Cause thats the only way I could' ve remained real still!!!![:o] |
RE: When animals attack?
Droptines - great account of the truth[8D] - funny only to those who have not been there.
When they are in packs - the leader is a maneater. its you or them. This was taken a few years ago - Same situation as you and luckily I was a little smarter and quicker than this 50lb Wild Poodle. ![]() |
