Field edges near food sources have allowed me to punch numerous tags during the first part of the early season, but those stands can go dead quickly once your presence - or that of others -is detected. Hit those spots early and then move incrementally towards the bedding area. Don't go in there and disturb the deer, but getting relatively close can help you catch one of the "early risers."
