If it is a modern compound bow, you will probably have 1 pin at 20 yards, 1 pin for 30 yards and 1 pin for 40 yards.

From 25 yards in you should be able to shoot it with one pin.

I have a very nice 4 pin sight..so far..I only use the top 2 pins..Top pin is set at 20 the 2nd one at 30...That 's probably as far shoot as I will take...For me 30 is a good shot. My last shot today was just in the outer edge of the bull's eye at 30 yds..a normal shot for these newer bows I reckon.

I'm set at 20, 40, 50, and 60. Last year I took a shot at 50 yards and nailed a mulie. That's a longer shot than I would like but the conditions were perfect. I practice at all the ranges that my pins are set regulary and would feel comfortable with a shot that far. I would take a shot at an elk out to 60 if it had it's head down feeding and everything was just right. I would prefer all my shots at 20 or less yards.

3 pin sight 1st pin 20,30,40 I wouldn't shoot at a deer out at the 40 yrd mark unless the conditions were perfect.

I shoot a adjustable one pin sight that I set to my cornpile--Distance?? Its according to what cornpile I'm setting on.LOL--I set my single pin for 25yds and my arrow is in the kill from 0 to about 37yds--little low up close//little high further out.
I also shoot High Country Bows--An old Safari and a less old Premiere Pro both set at about 62 lbs or somewhere close. The best thing is to shoot from 5yds increments with one pin and see what yore bow does.
