My go-to bows are a pair of Black Widow's..a 58" PSRV t/d recurve,52@27 and a 64" PLV longbow,50@27. But I also shoot alot of vintage recurves...mostly Brownings and a Shakespeare. They'll all get some time in the stand this year. I really want to tag a deer this year with a 40+ yr old bow. Arrows are Easton aluminums...spine depends on what bow I'm shooting and they'll be tipped with 125gr Magnus Stingers

I was reading these posts when I remembered something from a few years back. I was in a consignment store with my wife. She was looking for clothes for the kids or something. I was bored, and I found a shelf with some late 1980's and 90's deer hunting and archery magazines for a quarter apiece. I bought them for something to look at while she shopped.
I was very entertained to read what the new big things were back then. I had to chuckle. The oldschool Mossy Oak camo was the big deal back then. It was amazing to see the ad's for the "new, lightning-fast, state-of-the-art" bows of that time. They had round wheels the size of a half dollar, and you could probably run out and catch your arrow if it wasn't headed in the right direction after you shot. The crazy thing is that those original turtle-speed compounds and aluminum spears of the last century probably killed just as many deer as these things we shoot now...and made for better hunters I'm sure.
That being said, I shoot:
G5 Quest QS31 60#
Maxima Hunter 250 arrows
100gr Muzzy 3-blade broadheads
TruGlo 3-pin sight
whisker biscuit rest
alpine 3-arrow quiver
T.R.U. Ball Tornado release
