RE: I have my own huge food plot!!

hey Rack. I know what field you are talking about. I go by there early every morning seen upwards of 100 deer there some mornings. Sorghum is not really good for deer and at that place they don' t want the deer bugging them although they do have a couple of members that do bowhunt. The deer are out there eating the green stuff in the field but that sorghum will get to be 6-8 feet higher and will form big seed heads in late summer shich deer may eat the seeds. With that being a bird club and shooting going on all the time they should keep the deer moving.

Are you going to be going out the Archery Quest/Wildlife Creations Taxidermy any time soon? I would like to compare the shed I have with the one you found this spring. Any luck finding the other side?

If it is grain sorghum, it should stand up to moderate snow, and be about 4 foot high. There are other types of sorghum that looks more like a tall grass and can get up to 6 or 7 foot tall. If they want to attract birds, I would assume it to be grain sorghum.

The protein level will not be as high as a legume, particularly when it is near maturity. In earlier stages, I would assume the plant to be highly palatable. Especially if the acorn crop is limited, this may be a very important food source late in the year. Have fun with it and good luck.
