How much KE are you hunting with? and Whats your bow setup?
Whats a good level of KE for whitetails? I have no experience in this end of things so any help would be awesome.

Running these numbers (26" dl, 50# dw, 500 grain arrow), I show your bow doing right around the 170fps, producing about 32 lbs of KE.
Now more realistic numbers (everything the same, but a 354 grain arrow), I show your bow doing around 214fps, producing about 36 lbs of KE.
I have always been told that is takes about 40#'s to pass thru a deer and 50#'s to pass thru and elk. I think anything over 60#'s will work for most anything in North America.
My current setup (Hoyt Cabon Matrix, 383 grain arrow, 68#'s, 28.5 dl) is shooting right around 285 fps, producing right at 69 lbs of KE.

Bowtech captain
30" DL
430 grain arrow
293 fps
82 foot pounds Ke
This year i haven't gotten it fully set up and tuned yet but.......
Bowtech destroyer 340.
30" DL
Arrow should weigh about 550 grains
Should get about 270ish fps.
Should get about 90 foot pounds of KE

I hunted one season with a 40# bow because of a shoulder injury and I killed 10 Whitetails that fall. All Dbl lung Pass throughs. My wife shot a Big Doe at 33 yards with 37# and got a complete pass through a couple of years ago.
The Key to penetration is a well made sharp broadhead and a well tuned bow & arrow.
