RE: G5 Montecs

Very durable and easy to sharpen.
I wish I could say the same. I loved everything about these heads. The one piece design; they flew great; they were durable; BUT...... They were dull as a fence post straight out of the pack and resharpening them was a pain in the a$$. I think it is due to two things. One the angle of the edge of the blades is too steep and second they are made from an extremely hard tool steel that is hard to sharpen. I' ll take you at your word when you say they sharpened easy for you but I' m no novice when it comes to blade sharpening and I had a helluva time getting a suitable edge on them and never did get an edge that would shave hair easily. If this one area were to be improved on these heads I' d use them for sure. However, I will not pay over 30 dollars for 3 broadheads that I have to take out of the pack brand new and sharpen. Not when I can get Rocky Mt Titaniums for the same price that will cut you to the bone just screwing them on the arrow if you aren' t careful.

We did some testing with the new Montec and B-52' s yesterday, as well as the new RM Ironhead 100. The Montec' s and Ironheads grouped right with my field tips out to 25 yds (as far as I could shoot inside) even with 3" vanes, the b-52' s grouped well but were about 2-3" high and left of the others. I think the Montec is sharp enough to hunt with out of the box, but the B-52 needs sharpened. As always, the Rocky Mountains would shave hair right out of the box.

Todd.....if they are a very hard grade of stainless then while they may be a bit tricky to put an edge on, this would also indicate that once the edge is on, they will hold the edge for quite awhile.

BTW: I picked up a tube of the 100 gr Montecs last night. Right out of the package, they were plenty sharp. Not hair shaving sharp but sharp enough that I would feel confident hunting with them in their present condition.
