G5 Montecs
What does everyone think about the g5 montecs. They look pretty mean to me?

RE: G5 Montecs
I' ll let you know later this season i' m trying them for the first time. What I really like about them is that they are one solid piece and that they can be resharpened.

Macdaddy, Thats 5-shot:)
He is a regular here and puts much time into the testing thing. If you have a question on a bh he is the man:D |
RE: G5 Montecs
So far I' m impressed. I' ve shot mine into dirt target butts a couple dozen times each, and they seem to be holding up pretty well. Haven' t tried to put an edge back on them so I can' t comment on on that. They do fly great for me tho. I' ll know a little more after my broadhead league starts. Leagues always seem to tear up my heads. I' d like to see one after a couple hundred shots in dirt. Better yet, I' d like to see one take an edge after leagues. [:-]

I have used them on deer and elk and definitely would not be afraid to recommend them. They would get a " thumbs up" in my book!

RE: G5 Montecs
I just got back from a week up north. I was in the Cabelas store in Dundee MI and looked over the new monotecs. They are sharper and better built than the one I tested two years ago. I didn' t buy any to tests as I feel the newer ones are already better than the excellent head I tested in the past. I think they are one of the top 5 broadheads on the market today, at least as far as overall quality and how well suited they are to every type of game and bow setup.

RE: G5 Montecs
These broadheads fall into my catagory of gotta haves this year. I' m going to give them a try. I' ve always got my Thunderheads to fall back on if they don' t work.;)

Absolutely love them and won' t shoot anything else! Shot them for an entire season, killed three whitetail deer (two bucks, one doe), two pigs and a Fallow deer. All were pass thru' s and died within 40 yards. Very durable and easy to sharpen. Very straight and easy to tune as well.

RE: G5 Montecs
We did some testing with the new Montec and B-52' s yesterday, as well as the new RM Ironhead 100. The Montec' s and Ironheads grouped right with my field tips out to 25 yds (as far as I could shoot inside) even with 3" vanes, the b-52' s grouped well but were about 2-3" high and left of the others. I think the Montec is sharp enough to hunt with out of the box, but the B-52 needs sharpened. As always, the Rocky Mountains would shave hair right out of the box.

RE: G5 Montecs
Todd.....if they are a very hard grade of stainless then while they may be a bit tricky to put an edge on, this would also indicate that once the edge is on, they will hold the edge for quite awhile.
BTW: I picked up a tube of the 100 gr Montecs last night. Right out of the package, they were plenty sharp. Not hair shaving sharp but sharp enough that I would feel confident hunting with them in their present condition. |
