How Many Bucks Did You See?

Just Curious and wanted to collect some data.

I know I had a particularly poor season, as far as deer sightings goes, I hunted in 2 states, and over 25 times, I saw a total of 4 deer. (3 for sure) and I saw a one horned spike, a spike and a doe. That was all archery season.

So what my question is, How many bucks did you see while hunting. Not Driving around or spotting ect. How many Bucks did you see, what state did you hunt and how many times did you go out? approx.

Ryan.

Edit: If you hunted more than one state, I put it so you could make a 2nd selection, so that's what that's for.

Ryan.

I can't remember for sure but I believe It was either 10 or 11 different bucks. Those numbers I listed are actually pretty good for my area. It's usually In the signal digits but I saw more mature bucks this year then usual.

MeanV2 01-02-2010 10:54 AM

If I include my week in Nebraska I saw over 50 Bucks out of a Stand/Blind this year. It was pretty much the same as the last couple of years.

The Quality of the Bucks was better though.

virginiashadow 01-02-2010 11:09 AM

I saw around 13-15 different bucks in 2009. I saw around 16-18 bucks in 2008. In 2007, I only saw 3 bucks the entire 3 month season.

youngfart 01-02-2010 11:27 AM

My season was the best ever and I only hunted sparsley as I changed jobs and could only hunt the weekends. I had a total of 16 full days on stand and about 30 3 hour hunts this year. So that is way down from a normal year.
In total I saw 132 bucks of which I could have taken a shot at would have been about 73 I think! In turn I saw 3 over the 200inch mark and that was early in the season, and no, :happy0157:I had no shot oppertunities at them.:happy0001:

I saw 2 button bucks and there both in the freezer. I usually wouldn't shoot a small deer but no one in my family has gotten a deer in two years, so I had to restock the freezer.

teedub31 01-02-2010 12:09 PM

While bow hunting, I saw a scraggly 5 point.

While gun hunting, I saw 2 baskets and the 9pt I shot (all seen at the same time).

Just the other night (I was driving around as season is over for me) I saw 17 deer in the square mile surrounding my dad's place. 8 were bucks,

East Central Indiana

solocamcan 01-02-2010 12:13 PM

16-20 or so. Most were smaller than last year or year before that.

FLBandit 01-02-2010 12:49 PM

None for me, still have a few chances left though.

RIStrutStopper 01-02-2010 12:55 PM

I saw 2 bucks this year, one in RI and one in CT. They're both in my freezer now. I don't see many bucks, but I do see does fairly often.

scribbler444 01-02-2010 01:03 PM

Iv set a record for number of deer for myself this year between october till end of december hunting seasons Iv seen a couple hundred different deer in bow season I would average seeing 15+ bucks a week one day I saw as many as 7 including a 10 pointer I missed. More then half the deer I saw were in bow season but rifle was successful to in seeing deer but nothing compares to bow. Man I love bow season

Young Deer Hunter 01-02-2010 01:27 PM

I hunted a lot during the PA archery season, seeing about 6-10 different bucks. I shot a 7 pt early in the season. It was actually the first buck I saw and he came way to close to not shoot haha. I saw a lot of smaller bucks after that chasing does. I then saw a huge buck that came running by me after my dad missed him, sitting up the valley from me. Then towards the end of the year I saw a decent 9 pt come behind me and headed up to where my parents were in a blind with a crossbow and my mom harvested him and a doe! It was a great season!

sportsman22 01-02-2010 03:21 PM

I saw around 15 during the early bow season here in Wisconsin. I saw the majority however in late season bow. Too many to remember, some of them were the same, but around 40-50.

EDIT: I seen about 9-10 different bucks. Read the question too fast.

wis_rifle_hunter 01-02-2010 03:28 PM

i seen 5 bucks and 12 does all season long. it was a really slow year here in wisconsin

early in 01-02-2010 03:38 PM

I saw probably 10 different bucks this season. Several of them were non-legal (3 points on a side) bucks. I killed the biggest one that I saw though.

mauser06 01-02-2010 09:46 PM

i killed the first and only buck (only DEER) that i seen all season...killed him on my 7th hunt of the season...

peakrut 01-02-2010 11:46 PM

Nothing wrong here for sure, congrats.
As for my ass 1 buck and 2 nubbers which I filmed the nubbers most of the season.

30 different bucks this year

OklaBowhunter 01-03-2010 08:45 AM

Considering

I had a quest hunting with me the other day.

We had 16 different bucks come into a feeder. I saw more than my share this year.

Not often one see 16 bucks in one hunt. Mostly junk bucks. Spikes and button bucks. Only one shooter.

But I had a good year and saw more than my share of bucks.

I aw 0 bucks n my home state all season, in 5 1/2 days in Illinois I saw around 12 bucks, two being monster bucks.

Seneca SS 01-03-2010 10:30 AM

i spent 8 days bow hunting elk and saw several bucks--2 were over 30":hail: but were about 150 yds away---next year i'm spending more time trying for deer--did have several small bucks within 5 to 20 yards--

MOhunter46 01-03-2010 04:06 PM

I voted 16-20. Although 85% of them or so were illegal.

IL-Cornfed 01-03-2010 04:30 PM

I'm actually surprised by the lower number of Bucks spotted by some !?! I wonder if these low numbers are because of lack of time spent in the woods or because the hunter filled his tags early by shooting the first deer he seen??? I'm very curious? I know if I spent as many hours ALL season long as I do and only seen 5 antlered deer.... wow, that would be hard to deal with.... downright depressing !!!

IL-Cornfed, you continue to come across as a prick. I don't get it. YOU hunt good property, YOU see a lot of bucks. Why can't you get that not everyone lives where you do and hunts the types of properties you do? Either you are stupid, a prick, or both.

Funny, but kinda true. There are guys out there that hunt hard and might see 5 DEER a season. That's the hand they're dealt and they are happy to do it.

I saw 15 bucks this season between PA and MD. Probably more in PA than MD, but I hunted more in PA so that's to be expected.

marshall9779 01-04-2010 06:42 AM

I live and hunt in MD. I saw 6 different bucks on about 13-15 hunts. 3 of the bucks were 8 points one I got, and one I missed, both with the bow. If I hadn't shot the one I did, I would have had a chance at an absolute monster 8. One was also a 5 pointer that I hit and never recovered. All of the bucks I saw this year I either shot at or was within bow range to make a shot.

I agree! I just can't imagine it. I mean I have 120 acres here to hunt in IL that I do Not own and share with 5 other hunters. No QDM goes on for the most part. I used my Buck tags up by Nov. 3rd and thus cut my hunting time down drastically. I still sighted close to 40 bucks out of my stand in IL.

Heck I'm not making fun of anyone, and I doubt Brian was either. I know a lot of guys just don't have the time to hunt. Some only get weekends and not all of them. He is just stating how he feels. There is really no use to call someone names over that. Just my opinion.

That is YOU Dan. Your life and life responsiblities/hunting spots/goals/aspirations/skill level/time to hunt is different than anyone else.

I am not calling him names. He brings it on himself by constantly ridiculing people who shoot "small" bucks that he deems inferior to his Illinois bucks. He even said one time that his son/daughter makes better decisions and lets 100 inch bucks walk. WHO gives a crap. I don't like to get into it with people on here at all, but i am tired of hearing this crap about people suck at hunting/don't hunt enough/etc. and that is why they only see 5 bucks a year because they kill anything that walks. In fact I am sick and tired of it. It is disrespectful to all those men and women out there that work their butts off to kill deer in less than ideal situations, and yet are made fun by someone who lives and breaths hunting in the big buck mecca of Illinois. It is bullcrap.

MeanV2 01-04-2010 07:51 AM

VS, Bowhunting is a very personal sport. I could care less how often or how much anyone else hunts or what they put a tag on for that matter. I will and do congratulate them all. It is about Fun, and as long as someone has Fun then that's all that matters.

I would like to see some of the guys that hunt the property I hunt on and surrounding properties show a little restraint and quit shooting Baby bucks. I mean most of these guys have Bowhunted many years but shoot any little Buck that stumbles along every year, and in the meantime complain about not seeing a trophy to shoot. You can't have it both ways. Does eat just just as tasty as a little buck.

I realize other states are a different ballgame and will Not comment on states where I have not hunted. I know the area I hunt in NE I will see as many different Bucks in a week than I see in a month on my hunting spot here in IL. but.........................

yes you did call him names. I don't think I misread that:wink:

Saw 9 different bucks this year that I can remember. I didn't put in near the stand time as I have in the past to accomplish the same and tagged one Nov 3rd.

This was the 5th or 6th year on this property and had a lot to do with having better results.

Foxontherun 01-04-2010 06:56 PM

I went out 26 times,evenings mostly.I seen 22 bucks,PA

rybohunter 01-05-2010 02:19 PM

In 15 hunts in PA I saw 55 total deer, 14 were bucks. That covered basically the 1st 2 weeks of the season.

In about the same amount of time(fewer actual trips, but longer sits) in OH during the rut I saw 19 total deer, 7 were bucks.

fishinty 01-05-2010 03:14 PM

I saw three bucks this season.

dmen 01-05-2010 03:25 PM

I agree with vs, that comment was very condescending. About every comment by the ilcorn guy I have seen seems to be the same. I would say prick is a pretty accurate description for the prick.
