I think the snow on the deer face and head is giving a differentiation of color effect on the head. Not that there isn't something weird about it, but if there is, I can't see it.

Antlers look aged as well almost like sheds that had been laying for a little wile and set far back on the skull. I dunno

Looks real to me. Awfull big nose to be a Doe. If it were a skull plate of a buck or whatever your talking about...they did a awesome job of hiding it in a short amount of time.
