Default What is this??????

I was out moving my treestands this morning, and came across this furry ball.........threw sticks at it, wouldn't move......stayed curled in a ball......Fox? Woodchuck? Badger? Any ideas????

It's Raccoon. It may have been injured or sick.

What ever it is, I would say its rabid.. for it to not move and just stay like that, I would say its on its last legs of being rabid.

Wow.. The color doesnt look like a raccoon to me.. But who knows. Badger was my first thought.. but I've never seen a badger in the wild..

That's a racoon. 100% positive. In all honesty I have seen them do this before. This is a last chance defense mechanism for them. You must have caught him by suprise. It's not rabid or it would have not been trying to hide. When treed by dogs they will do this a lot in the tree to try to hide themselves from you lights. Seen it a hundred times if I've seen it once.

X2 he is just hiding from you. Thinks you wont see him if he can't see you. They are bashful critters some times and funny like this. He is not sick. Just hiding. WCL

Thanks guys. I was kind of thinking Coon too, but I have never seen one play dead like that.

At first glance I would say raccoon. But I would not rule out groundhog.
