Default What happen to the deer in NY??

1 more day and its over. I have never been skunked for bow season, and its looking like i will this year. I cant believe how bad this season has been. Nothing responds to calls or rattling. I had a doe come in this morning, and as soon as I hit the grunt to get her to come back she took off. Tried a bleat, they run, I don't get it..... So tomorrow is it, then gun season starts Saturday. Hope I don't get skunked there too.....
The deer just have not been moving this year. Don't know if the rut is not in full swing or what. If it is, then I'm blind, cause I don't see it. There was about 2 days when I saw lots of moving, then it just shut off. Well tomorrow is it, wish me luck... It will suck not to have any venison this year..

I'm not hunting this year, but I've noticed alot of increased movement from the big boys in about the past week and half- I've seen a couple 120-130 class deer and one 150+ moving around.

EDIT- I should say I'm about 1/2 mile from the NY border in Westchester County, NY. Not sure about the rest of NY, but...

I'm about an hr north of you dyb and managed to drop a nice buck and fill four doe tags (Not all in the same woods). Hunting up here is different though...there are a lot of woodlots surrounded by crop fields between the lakes. That hilly terrain you hunt in down there is brutal! I did not have a lot of response to calls this year either. I just set up to ambush the pinch points. I did see a vocal buck chasing a doe about two weeks ago...I'm thinking the rut is trailing off. That's not to say you couldn't get a buck excited with a bleat and some scent.

Well, for the first time in 5 years of my bow carer, I got shut out........ Last year, I got shut out in gun season for the first time in 15 years. This was just the worst bow season I have ever seen around here. There was about 3 or 4 days where the deer where moving nicely, that was it. Well hope everyone else had a great season. See you on the gun side, lol
