Hog hunting wild boar with firearms

A wild boar hog hunter can use any caliber rifle, any caliber black powder musket, or a shotgun with rifled slugs. Additionally, a hog hunter can use any caliber handgun from a 22 to a S&W 500. Scopes are discouraged due to the dogs and hog moving all over the place. We suggest you bring a soft cover case for your firearm.
Wild boar hog hunting with bow and arrow

We recommend when hunting wild boar with a bow and arrow you use either a long bow, compound bow, re curved bow or crossbow. Your bow must have a minimum draw weight of 35 pounds. Bow hunt wild boar from our swamp buggy. The height of a swamp buggy and it's ability to navigation the thick undergrowth give you a better chance at a clean shot with your bow and arrow.

I live just outside P-cola in Pace. If you don't have private land to hunt on your best bet is Escambia River management area. It is loaded with hogs and deer both. The problem is access. It is surrounded on both sides by private land and hunting clubs so a small boat is very valuable here.

It is open from Highway 90 to nearly the state line. There are several boat ramps which, if you don't have a small boat, will serve as your access points. Right now the river is very high and the lower end of the river is still flooded from the tropical storm so you will want to hunt farther North.

If you have a jon boat or other small boat you are in business. Motor up the river and find a slew to tie up your boat in and go hunting. It can be very thick in places but the hogs are definitely there. Trails tend to runt parallel with the river so it can literally be as simple as walking inland from the river till you cross a trail and climb a tree.

In Florida hogs can be hunted all year long on private land only. On the management areas you can only hunt hogs during either the small game season or big game season.

Blackwater Management area also has several areas with hogs but not nearly the density as Escambia.

You can try asking for permission but good luck. Land owners and farmers love to bitch and bitch about the hogs on their land tearing up their crops and food plots but dang if they will let you have access to kill them. I work at a local sporting goods store and you would think with as many farmers that I talk to one would want some help killing hogs.
