I've shot a bunch of deer. I'll say this, if you don't feel that combined moment of remorse/gratitude/sadness/happiness when you kill an animal, it is time to quit. I beleive you did the right thing. Perhaps be a bit more careful in approaching next time, but shooting the second arrow was the right thing.

You might be surprised to know the number of deer that are not recovered because the hunter did not take that second shot at an animal that was "good as dead".

i love headin out to the woods hopin to harvest a big doe, its so exciting.. thats what hunting is all about
