I told my self when i started bowhunting that i would only shoot a p&y for my first buck and after 3 years of passing up smaller bucks and hunting hard i seal the deal!

He scored 154 6/8

Nice buck...congrats!!!!!!!!!

ManofTheFall 10-28-2009 01:25 PM

When you eat tags for a couple or 3 years that is what you can do. You can do it on a consistant basis. That is the real good thing. I know we have some nice ones on the properties we hunt now, but next year that place will be littered with 130"-170" bucks because we have been patient. By the way, congrats on that nice buck.

wis_rifle_hunter 10-28-2009 01:38 PM

thats a great buck. congrats and nice job

BrentH243 10-28-2009 01:42 PM

That is a great buck. It shows that patience pays off...very rewarding sometimes!

cynikalHC 10-28-2009 01:51 PM

really nice buck. TPWD just implemented an antler restriction law on the land that I hunt so hopefully in a couple years we will have some brutes like that running around.

halfbakedi420 10-28-2009 01:53 PM

wish everyone was as patient as you are..we could use more people such as yourself..

bigtim6656 10-28-2009 01:54 PM

congrats and welcome to the forum. This is my 6th year. Though i skipped my third. I have yet to get one. I wish i had your restraint. If i see one with out spots it is getting shot another that i will hold off. I am real confident this year. If not i think i will need some anti depressents or i might kill my self. :sad0064: just joken. COngrats again. Good luck

Bible_Man 10-28-2009 07:34 PM

That's what hunting is all about. You set your personnal goal and stuck with it, and it paid off. Congrats on a dandy.

dpj1030 10-29-2009 06:37 AM

Nice Deer!

neshkorox 10-29-2009 10:23 AM

Thanks guys for all the great comments! It truly pays off in the end when you pass smaller bucks. And for all the people that say you cant manage your heard on small chunks of land, all I have to say is, If you don't give them a chance they have no chance at all! He was shot on my 80acr lease in wi.

Thats a great buck!!! Congrats!!! But I slightly disagree with managing your herd on small chunks of land.. I understand and agree with your intentions but you also have to add in the neighbors and how they manage their land.. I have one section of roughly 85 arc. that everyone within 1-2 square miles have agreed not to shoot anything under 8 points.. Now, on my main farm we hunt about 200 acr., however they are other people that have chunks of 10, 20, 30, and 50 acre. around us-in middle of us- and between a few chunks of land--they shoot everything that has horns.. I will never consider myself a trophy hunter--because I love venison and I love to shoot.. But this is the problem where I live is that people don't care about the size of the rack they are just as happy with a spike then a 10pt. Last year i passed up tons of bucks, I shot 2 and honestly probably passed on 20-30 others. On opening day of the rifle season, one of my neighbors must have shot 20 times.. At about noon I headed over to his house to see what he shot--between him, his son, and his wife they killed 13 bucks with the biggest being a small basket 8.. I had passed on all but 2 of those bucks in that bow season... When you have people around you like that it makes it really tough to manage anything.. I have nothing against filling the freezer, hell I go through 6 deer a year (most being does)--but 13 bucks in one morning of hunting is just wrong... I know another guy that shot 22 bucks with his bow and rifle 2 years ago.. Luckly he lives 5-6 miles from my property.. But still my point has been made..

neshkorox 10-29-2009 01:57 PM

I guess I should have made my self more clear…I agree you do need at least some neighbors that participate in passing the smaller ones..but not all. I own a 20 acr chunk and lease 80 acrs, and ever sense I have started managing my bucks I have noticed a difference and I im a firm believer in filling the freezer first! I LOVE VENISON! sorry don't want to seem like a a$$.

That's one hell of a buck! You should be mighty proud of yourself. I admire your patience. It certainly payed off for you. Congrats.:hail:

earnabuck 10-29-2009 03:36 PM

I assume you hunt near Neshkoro, I used to live in Montello and shot my first buck on Public land along the Mecan River ( Nine Point) That is some great deer hunting territory, very different than hunting the woodlots of Southwest Wisconsin where I am now. That is a super buck and congrats, I am in the same boat and have passed or missed opportunities on some nice bucks the last three years. I am hoping this is the year I connect.

dmax4me 10-29-2009 03:36 PM

Very nice buck. It is very hard to pass the 2.5 & most 3.5 year old dear but in the end it does pay off. Congratualations on a job well done.
