Getting drunk solves problems....duuh...Sounds to me like you hit his back or hit really low...usually get fat on back or low belly/brisket...He might be alright

Dont give up the search, it took me 5 days to find my buck, my new experience tells me if you can use the wind, you may smell him, prolly not tho if its well below freezing. Good Luck!
