What would you do?
 

So here is my situation. I hunt 35 acres that butts up against a huge lot of land (600 ac). The large lot is owned by a brickmaking company in my area. The brick company doesnt allow anyone to hunt this land. I was walking the edge of my land the other day and noticed a stand about 50 yards off of my land on the brick companies land. I have a stand that is right on the edge of my land that I am hoping is going to be one of my best stands. I am concerned that the illegal hunter my be seeing the same deer that i would from my stand. The stands are also to close together for my comfort. It just doesnt seem to safe to me. So here is my question(s):

Should i take down the illegal hunters stand down and just hold on to it?
or
Should i report it to the brick company?
or
Do you have any other suggestions?

If you're concerned, let the brick company know. I don't know the history there, but you might find that the stand belongs to someone in the brick company and that's why they don't let anyone hunt it - THEY'RE hunting it. If it's theirs, they'll probably let you know. If it's not theirs, they'll take it down.

By putting your stand right on the edge of your property, you're setting yourself up for a possible tresspassing scenario that we've already beat to death here. Second, how do you know for certain that Nobody is allowed to hunt over there?

Personnally, I'd move my stand further back from the property line until I was comfortable with the distance from the other hunter and the property line.

Its not your land, its not your stand, its none of your business. You can tell the company, and then its up to them. If you touch that stand, you are not only breaking the law, but now a theif.

I would let the brick company know about. This may also work as a way in on there land as well.

The reason I know no one is supposed to be hunting the land, is that i have talked to one of the higher ups in the company and he has assured me that no one (including employees) are not supposed to be using the land. I am thinking the best bet, from a safety standpoint, is too just move my stand, but I still believe that who ever is hunting illegally will still see the same deer as me just because it is right off of my land. Another issue is that I am not sure how they get to this stand. It is about a half a mile to any road. And that road is on the other side of my property. If I had to bet, they probably get to the stand via my land. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to find this out?

Get to your stand before he does and watch which way he enters his stand. Ask him the questions you're posing here and inform him that he's hunting property that isn't supposed to be hunted. You may find out that he has permission to hunt the property.

I know its not a great feeling knowing someone might be hunting some of the same deer as you and they might be doing it illegally, but reporting it to the brickcompany and moving your stand is about the only option you have here. Like John Deer said, get to your stand as early as you can hopefully to beat out the other person and maybe even find out who they are and if in fact they are trespassing. I've delt with this in the past as well and your best bet is just to make sure your legal!!!!
