price for hunting land

I had a guy offer me some hunting land last year. It end up not working but he asked me a price not money. He told me i could hunt a 50 acre wood lot between 300 acres of corn and bean his family owned. His only request was i pay the proccessing fees or butcher it my self and give him half of all the deer i kill there.
Seemed like a high price to me. One day or every some meat but 50% of everything i kill. WOuld you take someone up on that offer. I did because i had no land to hunt and need some private land. 50% of a deer or two is better then none. This year a friend is buying some land i told him good i will come down and kill all those garden eating deer. He said fine as long as i get half the meat.

Is this really normaly.
Not that i am complaining but dam.

Guess it depends on how bad you want to hunt.

Coinsidering what lease prices are becoming it doesnt sound too bad.

bigtim6656 09-20-2009 05:16 AM

ya i looked at one here that is going for 5600 for 280 acres on HLN even with the 5 hunters max where talking 1000 a year a hunter. Though i would properly pay it if i had a good group of guys to hunt it with.
The land last year fell through. The guy was a mason doing some work for us he did not finish and i guest figured he did not want me hunting there since he did not finish the job.

In my area, that deal is a bargain. I am offering that exact same deal to the the farmers/land owners around here, so far no takers.

If the place is any good and its exclusively yours then I really wouldn't complain. You'll kill more than one deer so don't worry about it. Process it yourself and you'll make out. Buy a meat grinder and and give hime ground venison.

Am I understanding the question correctly: You are being offered a chance to hunt land, and the only fee is you have to take care of cost of butchering deer YOU kill, and give the land owner HALF of the meat?

Yeah its alot of money for one guy . Finding the right guys to split it with is the key.

I was offered 240 acres of prime ground to lease------$12,000.
Aint no wat that was going to happen

I would be on that deal so fast your head would spin!! Lot's of guys out there with no where to hunt at all except limited public land. I would bet there are a lot of folks here that would shovel crap out his barn for a month to hunt there.

50 acres of land to hunt would be worth a lot to me thats for sure. Just knock down three quick doe's and fill his freezer for short money if you pay and shorter if you do your own cutting. Consider it a very cheap lease. Stack them up Bud!!!

I have several farms that I have to my self and was never asked for any meat. Every year though I will take some meat to the owner. He appreciates it and I believe that it why I am the only person that hunts these properties.

I don't think what he is asking is a bad deal. I would take his offer if the ground is good hunting.

bigtim6656 09-20-2009 06:33 AM

Theres a chance of it this year. He is waiting on his back pay from SS for diablity if he get it here soon he is buying about 10 or 15 acres.

Take the offer!!!!!!!!!!!!:rolleye0011:

YooperMike 09-20-2009 02:24 PM

Hell of an offer is you ask me. I've never wanted venison bad enough to turn down a piece of ground because i wouldn't get all the meat. The lease I currently hunt is paid for in sausage, and that's just fine by me, they can have all the damn meat as long as I can hunt there.

dyb3and88 09-20-2009 02:55 PM

I am the only person hunting a 35 acer spot. The land owner kicked everyone off because they didnt respect him and shot everything that walked by. only time they would talk to him is when it was hunting season and they where friends, kind of. The only person left standing was me. Why? because I respected him and gave him meat, and what ever he wants. I have even done some work on his truck for him for no charge. In return I get to hunt all year and cut firewood, for free..... I consider my self very luck to have a place to hunt and don't have to worry about anyone else taking my deer. We have become good friends now.
If thats all that land owner wants is some meat, consider your self lucky, give him some meat and have fun hunting knowing you have a privet place to hunt. Good luck this year.

bigtim6656 09-20-2009 03:22 PM

if he gets the land i will hunt and give him the meat. Not that i thought it to be a bad offer just seemed like it was the going offer around here since to guys said the same thing. I got lucky my first bow year had 40 acres 10 of which was mine might go look the guy up this week and see if i can get back over there.

johnch 09-20-2009 03:33 PM

I am paying $300 a year to lease 4800 acres
There are 45 total guys in the lease

BUT
8 or so only are in the only so they can ride their ATV's on the lease , and they have to stay on trails ( deer ignore them)
About another 10 only turkey hunt
13 only gun hunt for deer

That leaves about 14 of us that could be on the lease bow hunting at any one time
As I hunt localy the first 2 - 3 weeks to put at least 1 deer in the freezer quick
I almost never see another bow hunter all season

If the deer huntimg is good on that land and you can take a number of deer
I would jump on it

John

Maybe you should see just how much meat you'll get, it aint much. Money I can get 24/7/365, venison is much harder to come by, I don't need to tell you that.

BrentH243 09-21-2009 06:29 PM

Can I get his number?

PoorHunter99 09-26-2009 04:07 PM

shoot a doe, make some burger and toss him some back straps. It's better than having to pay out of pocket $1,000s on a lease.

Arjuna 09-26-2009 05:52 PM

I wouldn't have a problem with it either. I process my own venison, but even if you paid for it to be processed, it still doesn't seem that bad. I would try it for a year and build a relationship with the guy. What happened to make the deal fall through?

Big Ol Gobbler 09-26-2009 06:01 PM

I hunt public land, so this would be a sweet deal for me.
