Hey Derek, Where have you been hiding? Seems like forever since the last time I saw you post...

Texgrebby87 09-18-2009 09:06 PM

well I have been planting a food plot and setting a stand and working on the farm and working on tex grebner Outdoors and in truth i havent been back in forever to this site and so thats why i restarted this thread. are you seeing any activity?

IL-Cornfed 09-18-2009 09:38 PM

Have a good buzz going into this season. The weather has been cool and is really looking MUCH better than the hot weather we've had the last couple years. The foodplots are lookin' awesome and the deer activity and trail cam pix have been impressive. I find myself with more confidence than ever before. Now, if only we can get some 150"+ bucks to show up under some stands.

I tend to agree. Even in the spring while turkey hunting we saw lots of deer. The fairly mild winter didn't take a large toll on the deer. With the wet and cool summer the deer seem to be in pretty good shape. This is the first year we have used trail cams and have had a few nice bucks show up, now taking thier picture on a cam and putting them on the ground are two different ball games. Here is a pic of the one I would love to see from my stand...

BOWHUNTERCOP 09-19-2009 04:21 AM

Can a New Jersey boy get in on this thread?

I hunt on well over 2000 acres in Brown County, I will be bow hunting out there sometime around November 6th and thru the first shotgun season

Good Luck and be safe to you all !!!!

Kid 09-19-2009 12:54 PM

While it will be awhile for some, I saw Corn being harvested in East Central Madison County today. A lot of Corn got planted late this year in my neck of the woods (Macoupin and Madison Counties) hopefully it will be gone by the First of November.

BUCKMARK 09-19-2009 01:59 PM

Not sure when they got the corn in out where I hunt, but it was starting to turn a week ago. Plus there are alot of beans instead or corn in this year as well. We have noticed a lot more tracks than previous years as well on the property, so it should be a banner year...

Scott/IL 09-19-2009 04:32 PM

Talked today to a farmer and the corn was at 26% and dropping about 6% a week. They are calling for more rain this weekend around here so that may slow it a bit. He was hoping to be able to start cutting in 2 weeks.

Beans on the other hand at our farm is still a ways off. They were planted late, and only one field is just now starting to turn a little yellow.

JFergus7 09-19-2009 04:35 PM

Great news about the corn! Hope to see it come down 2-3 days before the opener!

Texgrebby87 09-19-2009 04:46 PM

See I personally dont want the corn down because I am going to be working as a 12 hour a day night drying at a grain elevator.... and that means I loose my stand time....

also the corn not being out I feel could provide an advantage because if the corn is in... then the deer will come to your funnels, but the corn out... they know the are out in the open and exposed.

Down&OutHunting 09-19-2009 06:28 PM

Seen a few guys here in So. IL shelling corn. We may be able to go next week if we dont see any rain but in 2 weeks we will be going pretty steady. We have alot of beans to that are turning. Some of you guys that dont farm are lucky. If anyone wants some work ill give ya some so i can hunt

Yeah but the corn gives them another place to hide. With the corn gone they will be forced to other cover.

Deer still have to eat so they will come to the picked fields

1shotkill1993 09-19-2009 08:06 PM

Maybe move to the Regional forums?

Texgrebby87 09-19-2009 10:42 PM

I personally would like to stay in the main forum that way other Illinois guys who dont think about the regional forums can find us easily.

also I have a food plot made of volenteer oats with in the treeline so I have tracks on top of tracks and it appears that something has layed down a few times in it.

Texgrebby87 09-21-2009 08:08 PM

any body seeing any signs yet?

Texgrebby87 09-21-2009 11:36 PM

So i hate technology because... i have 300 bucks worth of camera and softwere and none of it works... So I need to find away to get my crap together so I can film opening day. because I have over 800 subscribers to Tex Grebner outdoors now. which is also why I really want to have a good season.

Texgrebby87 09-22-2009 03:26 PM

well I am seeing some doses and doses mean bucks.

kateraxl2381 09-22-2009 04:27 PM

Where in So. Ill? We will be hunting that last week of bow season Nov14-18 with a outfitter from Eldorado, Ill. We hunt like 4 different counties...Pope, Hardin, Saline and Gallatin. We have hunted with this outfitter and he does it right!

Addictted 09-29-2009 07:31 AM

I'll be hunting the Whittington area the second week of Novermber. Never been to Il. before, how is this area?

Whittington isnt to farm from me. Are you hunting the public ground around Rend Lake?

BUCKMARK 09-29-2009 12:54 PM

3 days and a wake up. A couple minor things to do and away I go. Should be a good year with the way the weather has been. The deer look heathly and the food sourses are looking good too.

Kid 09-29-2009 01:51 PM

Corn harvest is really starting to pick up in Southwestern Il. Glad to see it. Looks like the weather will be decent for this time of the year. It was 43 degrees when I got off of work Tuesday morning at 6:00am. Good luck to all. :happy0001:

Texgrebby87 09-29-2009 03:23 PM

Texgrebby87 09-29-2009 03:24 PM

KICKIN_BUCK

No it is with Doug Doty of Illinois Whitetail Services LLC. He used to be Dreamwoods Outfitters but went on his own now. Great guy, we have hunted with him for the last 3 yrs.

I looked into the Wayne Fitzgerrell Area but it's only open 2 days that week and my guess would be that it gets hunted hard all of October.

NCRemington700 09-30-2009 07:15 AM

3 weeks and I'll be in Illinois for 7 days! Woot!

How many of you are coming down to this area to hunt?.Theres tons of public ground where i live and its only about 20-30 min. from Whittington. I would show you all around the area.

passthru79 09-30-2009 08:22 AM

Not going to make it opening day but Ill be out there the whole weekend. I was down at my place sunday checking food plots and trail cameras. Everything is looking good. Food plots are getting hit and a couple of small scrapes and rubs poping up here and there. Ive got upwards of 15 p&y bucks on camera so far, so the season is looking pretty good.

Redskin_Archer 09-30-2009 09:25 AM

Can't wait...I'll be out in LaSalle and Bureau counties.
