Default Bowhunting without a rangefinder

What do you guys do if you do not have a rangefinder? Walk off distances at the base of the tree you are sitting in and mark them with sticks? Whats the easiest way?

To be honest I just use my judgement if I haven't ranged things out... Sometimes you gotta just go with what you judge it at..

i hunt thick woods for the most part so shots are inside 20 yards, no range finder needed

but when i get on a open stand things can be decieving i like to have a tree around 20-30 that i have walked off

I will be in the same boat. My dad does have a range finder himself, but we will not be hunting together. And I do not have the money to just buy one for myself.

That is an other reason to shoot as much 3D as possible. Practice judging distances and then pace them off to see how close you are.. I used to walk off the distance from my stand before I got a range finder, and marked them with a rock. But I don't like to walk anywhere I think deer are going to be crossing.

Practice, learn and know a 20 yd shot. From there you can usually estimate 30 and 40 and make adjustments for inbetween.
