When I'm hunting sensitive bedding area type set-ups, I like to be in stand a minimum of 1 hour before light. This allows us plenty of time to get in slowly and quietly, and get our camera equipment set-up quietly long-before shooting light.
In certain circumstances, we've gone into stands 2-3 hours before light if we were trying to beat a buck to his bed. If you have a buck pegged, it's enough motivation to get up a little earlier! Any other time of year, and you can't drag me out of bed before 8am! he he he... |
At least an hour in the morning and by noon in the eve. Mainly because I hunt heavliy pressured public land and this is what it takes to get the area you want!

I like to be settled in my stand in time to here other hunters leaving the camps or parking their trucks an start into the woods.

I try to get to my stand 1 hour before first light on morning hunts. Afternoon I just get there as soon as I can.

minimum of one hour before shooting time in the mornin.
aftrenoon. no later then 4:30pm |
I always start slowly moving to my stand when I can just begin to see well enough to travel without a flashlight.

I too like to get in my stand at least an hour before daylight. One reason is because I have seen some nice bucks right at daylight and the best buck that I have ever killed was about 10 min. after I could see well enough to shoot.

Oh, another reason why I like to give myself plenty of time is because sometimes unexpected things happen, like when you are pulling your bow up and the rope gets hung on something or you drop your release ( not that this has ever happened to me,lol), you still have time to deal with these problems and get set up and have a good hunt.

Before the deer know I'm there.
