If you were close to me, I would set you up. However since your not, on your off time walk the local parks daily. The local parks that have plenty of deer running through them. It's a great way to watch how they react to humans, read tracks including age (very important to scouting). The rest of the posts will help you on your set up. With my advice, you can go anywhere cold and have a great hunt.

Good Luck!

Practice, Practice, Practice. I shot my Bow Damn near 1000 times before opening day last year. It payed off. Practice shooting from different angles as well as different heights. Once you become comfortable with your bow, the rest will come naturally.

Its my first year bowhunting as well and I have learned a lot from all these guys. Just make sure you practice and get comfortable with all of your equipment.

Go to Barnes & Noble site and get this book....The White-Tailed Deer.
http://search.barnesandnoble.com/Whi.../9780865730366
I have hunting deer since the early 60's and this book taught me more than any other book I have read on the subject. I noticed that used copies of the book are available for as little as $1.99 which should be within your budget. This book covers every aspect of deer hunting and every page has a picture or diagram to illustrate their point. It is easy reading and very understandable. Trust me....you won't be disappointed with this book.
