400 dollars for NY instate License.

My dad and the family went to buy license this year, and he ended up having to spend almost 400 bucks for the family. Not to mention 30 bucks for DMP tags that not one of us got a tag for.

Are they trying to make hunting for the upper class only:s1:?

TheMiz54 09-05-2009 08:49 PM

Yea I know whats u mean its getting pricey

dyb3and88 09-06-2009 01:47 AM

Ya you got to love Gov Paterson.......Doe tags use to be free when you bought a sportsman licance. Now no matter what you have to pay $10 for a doe tag and that doent mean you will get one...... pathetic!!!!

db73 09-06-2009 04:10 AM

Seriously considering the lifetime license. Lot of money up front but it will be worth it in the long run.

Get it while the getting is good. I got mine from Indiana. There ended the lifetime licenses, but the old ones are grandfathered in. Cost me $525. I was 27 when I bought mine. I am 35 now. Resideent tags are $25.00 each ( 2 archery, firearm and ML, initial doe tag, spring turkey, fall turkey) general hunting is $17 and the habitat stamp is $6. With the tags I buy my lifetime was paid for in my 4th year.

Indiana jumped their license fees so much when I bought mine, from $13 to $25. They announced this change about 6 months prior to it taking affect. At the time the lifetime was a derivative of the general hunting license. So everyone with half a brain did the math and bought a lifetime license even if they had to take out a personal loan at the bank. The IDNR was processing up to 1000 lifetime licenses a day in the last few months prior to the fee increase. after the increase they allowed no more lifetime purchases. Bascically, the IDNR screwed themselves out of several generations of money because they greedily wanted to increase the fees so drastically. Did not think thweir plan through very well IMO.

I love Texas, just bought my super combo, hunting, archery stamp, migratory birds, fishing everything except a federal duck stamp which cost 15.00.. All for 68.00. I will buy a non resident license for Oklahoma for 260.00 which is not bad.

I hate to see that you guys have to pay that much. That's ridiculous!

mossberghunter93 09-06-2009 07:10 AM

$400 for 1 license?!?!?!?!

elkhuntinut 09-06-2009 08:39 AM

I spent $290 for all the hunting and fishing though costly I utilize it to the fullest extent.

I remember spending $100 for the deer and archery tags.

BOWHUNTER818 09-06-2009 08:45 AM

I know im not in NY but here in De it just went up, it was $12.50 for a license last year (which includes 2 doe, and 2 antlerless tags) and then it was $10 for @ buck tags..not bad, now this year it is $25 for the license and 10$ for the buck tags. I am by no means complanning cause 400 dollers is rediculious to hunt, But i think every state has gone up this year...

elkhuntinut 09-06-2009 08:59 AM

The price of $290 is the non-resident license price, way lower for residents.

I look at it like this archery/muzzleloader buck tag, archery/muzzleloader doe tag, Regular season buck tag, DMAP (doe tag), 2 fall turkey tags, 2 Spring Gobbler tags, small game license and fishing license....alot of hunting for that 290.

Not to mention that Small game comes in Sept 1st and we can hunt on Sunday.....a little hard on a marriage it could be.

I bought the NYS Sportsman's Lifetime License a few months ago for $50 . When I went to the Town Clerk's office Aug 17 , I paid another $42 for the Archery & ML permits . Got both DMPs at no cost . Next year it should only cost me the $42 .........

That same amount of license purchases for a non resident in Indiana would cost you $975 (2 archery,1 firearm,1 ML 1 spring Turkey,1 Fall Turkey, Small Game, Fishing). We don't get a lot of out of state hunters here.

elkhuntinut 09-06-2009 04:15 PM

But I have heard the deer hunting is good in Indiana..had a friend "try it out" and they did quite well.

How many got which license's?
It's $88 for the Super Sportsman - includes fishing, small game, big game, archery and mz. 3 deer tags, 4 turkey, 1 bear, all small game and all freshwater fish but trout ($10 stamp). Can also have up to 2 dmp tag's signed over if available. $10 to apply for 2 dmp's from tje lottery.

27 cents a day over the year - a soda or coffee is at least a $1.50 in the convenience store.

No. if you get EVERYTHING, it is less than 100. Which gets you 4 turkeys, 4 deer, fishing, small game, predators, etc. small price to pay as far as i'm concerned.

it ain't 1949 anymore....

If that's the way it is that is very good compared to some Beats the heck out of Ohio where you get one deer tag for about 150 bucks additional tags up to six, only usable in certain portions of the state will add another 100 or so. Add into that mix the state for as big as it is has about 650,000 deer. Mich. has had as many as, get this, 1,000,000 more.

Turkeys at 24 bucks a tag and plenty of restriction they can keep as far as I'm concerned.

Your right this isn't 49. Then the herds were small and the hunters heavily restricted. Today the herds are to the point of being destruction on a large scale and the hunter a necessary tool to control that. Said it before, hunters should pic a year or two and just sit it out.

If the states need more from the hunter they should get it from those who benefit from us like the insurance company's just to name one. They are in essence hiring us through the state to benifit their business.

Google a little burb in Toledo Ohio called Ottawa Hills. Been watching their deer problem for a few years, just read they hired some swat team to come in. They are beginning to pay for killing animals. They didn't say that but that is exactly what they are doing. I like the sound of that! As much as it disturbs me hunters didn't get the shot I do see a silver lining.

There was a similar situation in a near by burb where bow hunters were used, but according to the article anti hunters ruined it for all but 2 and then it most likely wasn't a pleasant sit. This was why the hunter didn't get the nod.

Let them animals breed and run wild. Anti hunters will still be anti hunters but, and this is a big but, they will be greatly disliked by society and most likely run out anytime they act up. The hunter, will be seen as the good guy being paid and protected for their service.

Don't forget this, many people have not the maturity or stomach to harvest animals year after year.

I should clarify this, in state license isn't 150 it's I think 19+tags. Out of state is 150 all together, one license and one deer tag. I go other places and get multiple tags of different animals for that money. (After reading this calrification I should get a job writing for the game laws. I'm just about as clear as the mud they put out in their publications. :)

wis_bow_huntr 09-07-2009 04:11 AM

Geesh and I thought $24.00 was high for a hunting license.

BvrHunter 09-07-2009 04:17 AM

Wow and I thought the Common Wealth of VA was bad, they went from 12.50 to 15.00 to 18.00 in the last four years. Thats eighteen a piece and its broken down into four licenses. 1 for small game(dove,squirel,fox,ect..) 2 for Archery, 3 for black poweder, and 4 four big game(deer, turkey, bear) but the kick is in order to get your archery or black powder you have to have the big game as well!! Im looking into the lifetime license myself. Its $255 right now for my age group (12-44) and the price goes down for each different age bracket. I think the 65 and over is like $15....

You guys are not one of the bad ones tag wise.

State has it all except for the land including an over abundant population of anti hunters and a crazy no sunday hunting which when added all up keeps most away. Your tags are great!

mossberghunter93 09-07-2009 07:40 AM

i paid 10 for a youthresident license but even the adult resident is only 19 and the nonresident is like 25

BvrHunter 09-07-2009 07:48 AM

nodog, your right I won't complain to much lol reading some of the other post it should could be worse!!

bigbulls 09-07-2009 10:50 AM

he ended up having to spend almost 400 bucks for the family.
So how big is the family?

Your complaining about spending $400 doesn't mean squat if we don't know how many people this $400 is accounting for.

Valentine 09-07-2009 03:03 PM

Let's see

you complain about the license cost for an entire family.

But I noticed that the cost of your bow and equipment, wasn't chopped calves liver.

elkhuntinut 09-07-2009 04:40 PM

Its no doubt that to equip a family with licenses, equipment, etc isn't inexpensive, but neither is soccer, softball, etc ...except with the latter the parents sit on the sidelines rather than participate.

Plus watching your son or daughter place their tag on their first big game harvest will be a memory all will remember.....can't say the same for the first soccer goal.

Canuck33 09-08-2009 05:20 AM

I spent 960 and got the lifetime Sportsman, Bow and muzzy this year pays for itself in 8 and if you get it before Oct 1 you don't pay the increase, well worth it if you ask me.

live2Draw 09-08-2009 05:58 AM

i want to know where t take an approved archery course?

LKNCHOPPERS 09-08-2009 08:16 AM

Sounds like you got 4 Super Sportsman licenses and a doe tag each. Multiple licenses add up.

Look on-line in the area you normally go or anywhere if you don't care there are usually a ton this time of year in gander mountains, churces, fish and game clubs etc. I think NYSDEC website has a list as well

killzonearchery 09-08-2009 02:22 PM

thats y i like ky its 95 for fishing and hunting

dyb3and88 09-08-2009 03:34 PM

I just got my license yesterday. $88. That's a sportsman plus turkey, bow. A sportsman is, big game ( deer and bear ) plus $10 to "apply" for up to 2 doe tags, you may not end up with any. fishing, ( covers all fish ) Small game= rabbit, squirrel, coyote. Last year I paid $58 for the same thing that coast my $88 this year. NY wants more sportsman, they wont get them that way.

gromage1 09-08-2009 04:53 PM

Prices here are crazy, I bought a lifetime sportmen and lifetime archery for about $425 back in the early 90's. The changes this year state that the only ones getting free doe tags are Lifetime Sportsmens prior to this year and youth tags, even my dad, a veteran and senoir citizen is expected to pay. If you can afford it get the lifetime, I'm seriously considering it for my 4 and 6 year olds, even if they just fish it will pay for itself in no time the way things are going. It just makes no sense to me when they want you to take does they all of the sudden start wanting to charge you for it, this Gov is a complete moron ,with him its all about revenue he has no clue when it comes to anywhere but the city ,his days are surely numbered.

richwrench 09-08-2009 05:20 PM

I was born & raised in the greater Rochester area - moved to FL in '86 & never looked back. I'm not slamming NY - still have a lot of friends & family there - but the taxes are insane IMHO. Down here I buy a Sportsmans Gold license for 100 bucks & it covers all scuba diving/spearfishing/lobstering/snook/bass/archery/muzzleloading/generalgun/deer/hog/smallgame/whatever. Plus I can hunt 6 months of the year here with 2 deer a day in season & fish 12 months without chipping holes in the ice. Not a bad trade in my book...
