RE: running deer

I would never try that unless it was a monster buck that i could not stop.It would be hard not to.
No offense intended, but antler size shouldn' t dictate what is or is not a proper shot for a person to take.

Hey JRW proper shot? A 160 + class deer and you would not shoot,IT be hard not to proper or not.And why do we practice? So we can be the best we can be,and make a clean an ethical shot.

I wouldn' t drop my level of ethics based on the size/score of the rack. I wouldn' t take the risk of wounding any deer on that questionable of a shot.

I would have a lot of fun shooting that running shot on the range but would leave that shot on the range and not in the woods.

Well put JRW, antlers or not, a shot is either ethical or not, there is no difference in ethics between a 180 class buck and a doe. I have no problem at all on practicing on a moving target, and to be honest I have seen some people who taking a shot at a running deer would be ethical, but not me or 95% of other bow hunters.

It' s fun shooting at moving targets!

Bullsi , dont let the ethics police get to ya! I admire your honesty[:-]

Theres a big difference between a running deer , a trotting deer , and a walking deer. I cant imagine you and your son moving that deer target fast enough to simulate a running deer[:o] It' s good practice for shooting at a walking or trotting deer.

I will always pass up a running shot no matter how big the deer is. If that deer never knows I' m there chances are he' ll be back and offer a better shot. I' d rather let the deer walk and not get a better chance later than wound him and never find him at all.
