I am still confused...even though hunting season is 4 months away and i shouldn' t be worrying about it...i' m still confused about what broadhead to get. I have posted topics over and over again. Now i' ve decided to post something on the advantages and disadvantages between fixed blade broadheads and mechanical broadheads. What are some advantages that fixed blades have over mechanicals and vise versa. Really all i' m looking for is for you to pursuay me to one side mechanicals or fixed blade? My set up is Fred Bear TRX set at 65#,29 in draw length, Carbon Express CX 300' s 30 in. long. I shoot 100 grain. Thanks!

just adding on...is there a broadhead that there is no possible way to go wrong with? i know it has a lot to do with preference but i' m young and i don' t know a whole lot about whats good and i haven' t had a whole lot of experience with different types of broadheads. I also don' t have the money to buy a bunch of different types and shoot them at this moment. Thanks once again!

I don' t have the " too young" problem like you, but I do share your " not enough money problem" to try all the different broadheads.........

Over the years, I' ve learned that things with few moving parts, and things that are simple, are things with fewer malfuntions. Simple things are reliable and repeatable........

I love my fixed blade Muzzys......I shoot a 3 blade 100 grain.....I' ve had a couple of through shots on deer, and the broadheads come out looking and performing like new.........I' ve missed a few deer and stuck the ground, but learned that a good sharpening will put them right back in service......Muzzy fixed blades are rock solid..

Well if money is tight(I COMPLETELY understand that)You probably need to forget mechanicals.

Most GOOD mechanicals will cost about twice as much as a good quality fixed blade broadhead.The durability of mechanicals will not compare to fixed either.


I like the Rocket Steelhead mechanicals.They fly almost exactly like field tips making the changeover a snap.They penetrate as well as most fixed blade broadheads.But the blades will bend or break if put to the test.They will also rattle when using a quiver mounted on the bow while hunting.The overall cost and rattle is why I am going to try to go back to fixed bladed heads this year.



The advantages of fixed is they are generally are tougher than mechanicals as I have already stated.They do penetrate better than MOST mechanicals.They are usually more cost efficient.Draw back is they need to be tuned to fly well.


What is an advantage for one brand may not be for another but here are a few that I don' t think you can go wrong with.

Thunderheads
Dead Heads(my choice this year,I think)

And it is not too early to be thinking about what will be assisting you in the woods this year.I been looking for about a month now.

I am sure there are alot more good choices but these are just a quick few I could come up with.

You need to check out 5 shots test.They may be over the top but do give some kind of idea to toughness and durability.

I have tried a great number of BH' s with many setups and for different game. I will tell you I ended up where I started many moons ago and that is a fixed head. I have been using the Muzzy 100 grain head for 4 years now and it continues to be my choice. In my setup I don' t have to change a thing from FP' s to my Muzzy' s, which is why many prefer Mechanicals. While any BH can fail, I think you run a much smaller risk using a fixed head.(as stated moving parts have a higher failure rate then locked in stationary parts, it makes common sense)

I use to be a muzzy man,but now i`m a rocket man.But I keep both in my quever.3 rockets and two muzzy.Rockets for deer and muzzys for coyotes or wild dogs.Dont want to wast a rocket on a covote.The 90gr slammer hesds fly abouy the same as the muzzy 90grs.They both do the job but killing a lot of deer with my rockets i`ve done less tracking and have not lost one yet.

I dont think you can go wrong with muzzys , just remember to use brand new blades to hunt with .
