What won't you shoot this season?
We always talk about goals and what we are after in a given season. So what's off limits to you. (ahem..I said to you!, as an individual)
For me: No fawns. No unicorns... I didn't say no non-symetrical horns (Rob Bucks)I said no 1 horners. What say you? |
RE: What won't you shoot this season?
same as usual:
1. no button bucks 2. no yearlings or 2.5 year old bucks (whitetail) 3.a sow with cubs 4. a spike bull elk 5. a yearling mule deer 6. myself orhunting companions:D |
RE: What won't you shoot this season?
Something that doesn't "do it" for me. I don't really have a number, I guess it's around 100 to 110 inches, though.
|
RE: What won't you shoot this season?
Whitetail, no bbs, yearlings, or most 2.5s.
Blacktail, no does or yearlings. IF I make it to arizona, it will be dang hard to pass anything with antlers, so I will have to be faced with a specific scenario. |
RE: What won't you shoot this season?
For me:
1. Family members or friends:D Seriously, I won't shoot fawns or button bucks. No younger small racked bucks. One thing I definitely won't do, that I know some people have no problem with, is shoot does that have fawns with them. I just can't do it. Here in NW Ohio there are alot of does, and the past few seasons we have been blessed by the DNR to have a bonus tag to take an anterless deer before the slug season starts ( I won't get started on that). There are so many does running around that there are always does without fawns with them, so I have no reason to shoot one with fawns. Just my way of doing it. |

RE: What won't you shoot this season?
Where I'm at in Florida I've never even seen a deer in the wild during deer season. I shoot armadillos and squirrels because there's nothing else going on, if I see a legal deer I'm taking a shot.
|
RE: What won't you shoot this season?
Whitetail Hunting
Won't shoot - Fawn - *Unless it's an albino or piebald Yearling buck Everything else is a "spur of the moment" decision. ANY doe is at risk of being shot........at. |
RE: What won't you shoot this season?
a Mathews
other then that anything is fair game |
RE: What won't you shoot this season?
I won't shoot bbs,and the past 3years I have not shot the small bucks, last season I didn't even shoot a buck, trying to let em get a litttle age on them, but after this season if I don't start seeing some better deer all bets are off I'll shoot whatever I'm in the mood for whenever an opprtunity presents itself.I mean how long to you keep passing on the small bucks if you are not seeing any quality bucks.I know its not the pressure or someone else killing them.
|
RE: What won't you shoot this season?
Glad to see many that atleast have some goals,..... however, I wish more folks would list immature bucks (2 1/2 years oldand younger on their list of "NO-shoot" animals? [&:] It's gotta start somewhere folks. Nothing more rewarding that settinga goal and then realizing it, but goals are never supposed to be easy. Good luck to all of ya this season, regardless of what your shoppin' for out there. :)

zebra, girraffe, people, big foot, eagles, woolly mammoth, and livestock
|
RE: What won't you shoot this season?
Since I mainly go after bears...and hogs.
No sows with cubs No cubs, or young teen bears No bears under 150# aprox of course, male or female I will kill any hog I see |
RE: What won't you shoot this season?
No fawns...
No basket racks... Preferably I will fill my antlerless tag with a good Doe, and then a +3 1/2 year or older buck. But I could be swayed if a bigger 2 1/2 year old pokes his heart in front of my arrow.. |
RE: What won't you shoot this season?
I will not participate in the Michigan philosophy..
" If it's brown it's down." I will practice what I believe to be sound QDM practices. Shoot does, and 1 mature Michigan buck only.. When I go to Northern MO this year.. I will be holding out for a 140" or better ;) I can't go elk hunting this year. I will be going home in 2010 for elk. anyone wanna go ;) |
RE: What won't you shoot this season?
no bucks 2.5 or younger, shooting for 130+
doe's beware!!!! |
RE: What won't you shoot this season?
I dont see how its anyones place to tell ,or even suggest what is appropriate for anyone else to shoot, as long as its legal. We hunters are not all at the same place in our hunting careers and a small buck or a doe is a mega trophy to some so why begrudge an upandcomer that joy? I also dont buy the coolaid that if we all holdout for more mature deer, well someday have monsters behind every tree:eek: Even if it did, why should all hunters pass on a deer they might be tickled w/ just because a few elitist want to shoot 150"s every year?

I think the title of this topic is: What Won't YOU shoot this year?
Not what you don't want everyone else to shoot. |

RE: What won't you shoot this season?
ORIGINAL: Muliefever I think the title of this topic is: What Won't YOU shoot this year? Not what you don't want everyone else to shoot. As to what I WON'T shoot, the only honest answer I can give is"anything illegal". If it's legal, the right species and I'm hungry, it's in trouble. My hunt - my ethics - my rules. Besides, where I hunt we're so overpopulated with deer our limit is 3 antlerless deer per day - all season. I see no reason to be selective. |
RE: What won't you shoot this season?
Stuff that will get a pass-
1. Button Buck 2. 1.5 and 2.5 year old bucks 3. 3.5's? Not sure, depends on their size. 4. Most likely a small bear (Not sure yet what I'll decide yet on weight, we'll see when the time comes on how the baits look) |
RE: What won't you shoot this season?
1.fawns
2.button bucks 3.bucks under 2.5 years old 4.young deer in general 5.half racks |
RE: What won't you shoot this season?
I am heading into my 6th hunting season third bow hunting. If it is brown and over 100 pounds it is going in the freezer after i get my first i will change it quickly.
|
RE: What won't you shoot this season?
No people, No young bucks and hopefully no brush!
|
RE: What won't you shoot this season?
Anything 4pt or less and no young doe... Thats about it.
|
RE: What won't you shoot this season?
A fawn or button buck.
|
RE: What won't you shoot this season?
For Me:
Fawns Spikes Button Bucks No Deer Under 8 Points unless it is massive.. |
RE: What won't you shoot this season?
I will be antelope hunting for the first time this year and I hope to take the best buck I can in the 7 daysI will be there if it is a small one it will still be a good one to me since it will be my first lope. For whitetail 3.5 yr old or older buck (standards start to drop later in the season) and good mature does to help out my friend at the golf course usually 4 out of there for him.
|
RE: What won't you shoot this season?
I wont shoot spots, and I wont shoot 1.5 old bucks, anything other than that will depend on what Ive seen scouting and on trail cam pics.
|
RE: What won't you shoot this season?
Any buck that doesn't fulfill my idea of a "nice" buck...ie 130" or so. Fawns don't scare me.
|
RE: What won't you shoot this season?
Fawn or
Yearling buck Not by choice: Bear |
RE: What won't you shoot this season?
I wont shoot a fawn, mostly because I worry about accidentally taking a button buck. In NY we get a doe tag and an either sex tag and generally the first animal to give me a good, ethical shot, gets the blades. It puts meat in the freezer and takes some of the pressure off, makes it easier to enjoy the rest of the season knowing I already have one down. I don't begrudge anyone who only wants to shoot 3.5 year old and up bucks, but I personally think it takes a little bit of the joy out of the whole experience.
|
RE: What won't you shoot this season?
Hell I just want to pull back on something this year. I will shoot a doe or cow this year. I just want to see one ha ha.

RE: What won't you shoot this season?
Healthy does and bucks that fulfill my desires will get drilled. All else can walk by and piss on the base of the tree I am hunting out of and still won't get an arrow.
|
RE: What won't you shoot this season?
For Bucks: Nothing under what appears to be Pope and Young
For Does: All slick heads are in danger |
RE: What won't you shoot this season?
anything under 140"
