Shot the Monster

So I stopped in at the shop Friday night to do a little shooting. I got a text earlier in the day from the shop manager telling me the new Monster was in. I love my Hoyt, but just had to shoot this bow. I mean how could I not at least shoot it with all the hype that has surrounded the release of this bow? As I said, I love my Hoyt's, but I also know that Matthews has put out some great products, such as the DXT. I had been saying that I thought that Matthews was taking a step backwards by getting into the speed game, getting away from what made them a great bow company. I am man enough to admit that I was wrong.

Here is my honest opinion of the Monster.

Speed - As fast as all the hype built it up to be. The DL was 29" set at 63lbs, we shot a 420 grain arrow at 332fps.

Draw - IMHO, the draw on this bow is really smooth, which surprised me since it was a speed bow. However, there was a very noticeable "drop" into the valley, which I did not care for. Overall, the draw was so much better that I would have thought for a bow capable of these kinds of speeds.

Vibration - I am not going to say that it had none, because it did. However, you have to remember we are talking about a bow capable of shooting 350+fps. What I will say it was so much less that what I expected. I was expecting for the bow to want to jump out of my hand, which it did not. In fact, it held very nice. As I stated, there was some hand shock with the release, but not as much as one would think and less than a lot of other bows that are not capable of these speeds.

All-in-all, IMHO this bow lives up to the hype. The extreme speed does not interest me has much as it interests others, so I can safely say there will not be one in my house any time soon. For those that are looking to go fast, this is the bow to do it with and do it without losing the shootability.

I feel very dirty now, so I am going to go shoot my Hoyt for a bit and ask for forgiveness.

I shot it the other day, and can honestly say that I have never had so much trouble pulling back a 70lb bow, lol. I can draw any other 70lb'er, but I had to grunt with the Monster.:D Other than that, it was an awesome shooting bow. It was FAST!!! The shot was extremely smooth. I did not feel any hand shock or vibration after the shot, but everyone's opinion will be a little different. It was pretty loud, but it's a speed bow that has an IBO of over 350fps, what can you expect....

Overall, I was very impressed with it...everyone should go shoot it just to see what it's like....

I still say that if you have trouble pulling any # bow back at your draw length then that poundage is too much for you and you need to move down in weight. 70# is only 70# you may pull it longer but it's still only 70#;)

Glad to hear it isn't just me that had an issue drawing the bow peaked at 70#. I wonder if they are actually more poundage then what they claim??

The best part about the leagues up there is we run them Mon-Fri, so you can pick the day and time that works best for your schedule. 3D Pop-up is a blast, I almost get bored on a normal 3D course now.

We put the bow on a digital scale, DW is dead nuts, but the DL is fudged a bit. I sho0t a Hoyt Katera XL and AM32, both set at 29.5. The Monster was suppose to be 29, but it felt a touch long for me.

I shot this thing as well and found that the draw cycle is at best, difficult. But, its a speed bow, that is to be expected.

MeanV, I believe a lot of supressors are in order for the Mathews bows this year. ;)

I shot the Reezen and the Monster both, and, this is no knock on Mathews, but I honestly think they went backwards this year, trying to reclaim the speed crown. The Reezen was actually worse than the Monster in my hands. The Monster wasn't all that bad in terms of vibe. But, both bows had quite a bit of string Vibe. Mathews has always been known for quiet and smooth. These new offerings are quiet, but anything but smooth.

MM, I have sold several suppressor to Reezen owners this year. Last year the DXT did not have a rear Stabilizer hole so those owners had to go to a Front Mount or do without.

The New Maximum MeanV in the 7075 alloy is available in Lost Camo & a Carbon Fiber finish which have both been very popular with the Mathews owners. Suppressors are undoubtedly one of the best bang for anybodys $$ in Bow accessories.

I will also be introducing some new models to retrofit some Hoyts as well as some of the BowTechs. These models were brought about by demand from customers.

We are pleased with our Feedback, but strive to make the best product possible and be here with customer service that is second to none!:D

I shot the Reezen and Monster and I agree they went backwards. The hand shock was alot compared to what I was expecting.

I loved the DXT as well. My Hoyt AM32 has a DL of 27.5 with a 400'ish grain arrow @67 pounds and its running at 283 fps...

Thats it for speed...Its plenty.

AM32: I score it

Weight..slightly heavy - A
Smoothness - A+++++
Valley - A++++++
Vibration - A+++++

Ok, slightly heavy still receives a A ??

And what kind of person does a "unbiased" review with things like A+++++ to report how well a product works? That told me nothing about the bow and leaves me thinking you bought it solely because it was a hoyt.

i checked one out at my pro shop the other day... nice bow... I didn't shoot it, but did draw it back. Personally, I did not care for the draw cycle and the shallow valley on the letoff... I think I will stick w/ my Switchback XT for another season or 2...
