bowfishing

About how far under a fish do you aim when bowfishing? I' ve hear everything from 6-12" to " the bottom of the fish" . I know you aim lower for deeper water (or so I' ve heard). About how deep can you fish with a bow?

Best bow for bowfishing is a 50-55lb recurve. Allows you to snap-shoot and to shoot at less than full draw for fish that are close and close to surface. Older compounds having 50# draw w/50% letoff is ok.

I use my old 50# draw-weight 1975 circa PSE Pacer and a 45# recurve (4" draw over 28" = roughly 53#-57# draw-weight). I also make my fishing arrows.

I' m in St. Louis, Missouri and I can' t picture what you could bow-fish. I' m sure that' s just cause of the waters I' m used to... what type of fish are you bowfishing for? I' m a pretty avid fishermen and I just don' t ' see' that many fish.

Depending on state game laws, trash fish is usually the only fish you can shoot. In my location, that would be, commonly, carp and gar.

I hunt (wade) shall water during non-spawn season and shoot mainly carp. During spawn, I will hunt shallow water, walk the banks, and shoot from boat.

I also hunt bullfrogs when they are in season.

Well when I was typing the message I was thinking that the only thing I' ve ever seen shallow like that has been carp... I' ve seen a few gar, but no too many. And even the carp (at least on the lakes I frequent) are far and few between. What license do you get for that, fishing or hunting?

In my state, a fishing license is all that is required.
