Treestand hunting for spring turkeys
I was wondering if any of you guys have hunted for spring turkeys from a treestand with your bow? If so what types of negatives/positives have you encountered? I am thinking about doing it this year if it is legal. On the property we hunt it never fails that the toms are always by one stand and this year I was thinking about pulling it off. Some might say "Just set up on the ground by that stand." Trust me I have but it never fails they are somewhere else when I am on the ground by that location.

RE: Treestand hunting for spring turkeys
Give it a shot. I had a chance this last fall when i was deer hunting. I seen them coming in so I took it as slow as I could and they picked me off like I had a neon sign above me. I'll stick to a ground blind.

RE: Treestand hunting for spring turkeys
I have had turkey's come in a few times when I could of killed them from a treestand, of course movement is critical but I am pretty sure I could of pulled it off. it was not season anyway though

RE: Treestand hunting for spring turkeys
Sure it can be done. I think you would be better off using a ground blind though. They just see to dang well to hunt them out of a treestand.

RE: Treestand hunting for spring turkeys
I shot a hen last fall that came into my food plot during the first day of Turkey/Deer overlap. Took her at 20yds while I had 25+ birds in the plot around her. VERY slow draw sequence, and I'm still surprised I wasn't busted. I still prefer to be on the ground.

most of the time if you in a stand and try to pull back you gonna look like PETA member at an NRA meeting.

RE: Treestand hunting for spring turkeys
Yea if I had a turkey tag this fall, I had 2 gobblers fighting in front of my standat about 20 yards for awhile in october. [:@]
Lesson learned. I dont know about spring time stand hunting, but hey give it a shot |
RE: Treestand hunting for spring turkeys
I personally couldn't hang out in a treestand while Hunting spring gobblers! Would make it pretty difficult Runnin & Longbowin' em'! I kinda go after them instead of waiting around for them to come to me! Sure if you know there going to come by your stand, go fot it, but you better be in some good cover! They will pick you off from across a field!
