That's a good question, we always called them bulrushes, even though i don't believe they are. They are not cattail-like, as they are more tube-like. And they work great for shining up pennies.

We call that snake grass. On our property you only find it along creeks

The only place i know of in my whole county is in my woods, and it grows along a couple creeks in a valley.

Yup!

That is "horsetail" around here. But it is actually the in the genus Equisetum.

It is a vascular plant, that works really well for cleaning pots and pans, or anything else while camping (or shining up pennies I guess?[8D])because it is actually a silicate (contains/made up ofsilica).

And yes, I am a biology nerd and major.
And yes, I did just rip apart a biology text looking that up.

I dont believe that deer eat this stuff, but i do know that they make a ton of trails through it. Next time i am back there i will take some pictures of the highways running through it. They also bed init alot

As a note, i havnt had much success hunting in it though.

I finally figured out the full name of the plant:

Equisetum hyemale

Deer will not eat it.
