Default The hunt for the "Hammerhead" Buck--scouting pics

As some of you may remember I had an awesome encounter with a buck I later nicknamed the "Hammerhead Buck". I found some encouraging sign today, not 400 yards from where I saw him last year. Much thanks to Gri22ly for helping me with my topo/contour map studies which eventually put me onto that buck. Not sure if thesign I found was from him, but it was a lot of fun. Took me about 2 hours until I finally found a nasty inside edge that paralleled a large ravine...it all led up to what looked like an old homestead area.

Thanks Huntinman. It will be challenging to get another shot at him next year, but if it were easy it wouldn't be fun! In fact, in the past 10 years I have only ever seen a 1 buck the following year after I first spotted him. It is hit or miss! I am hoping a lot of scouting will help me tip the odds in my favor.

I hope so too WV. I didn't see or hear of anyone taking a real big buck off the area. But you never know. I know the Hammerhead buck made it through....I hope

Siman..in all my years of hunting this is the first buck I have ever named. He made that much of an impression. I rattled him in from deep down by the lake up until 20 yards. I had a perfect broadside shot lined up until he spooked for whatever reason. I was crushed. It looked like he had about a 20 inch spread and maybe 10+ points. Would have been my biggest buck by far.

That's beautiful country anda couple of really nice rubs. Hope you get him next yr. Just wondering, would those happen to be cedars that are rubbed?

That does look like a really nice spot. Are there any trout in that water?
