Black Bear in Illinois

Males will travel a long ways In the spring time looking for females, farther then most think. However this bear In Illinois Is said to possibly be a captive bear from someone which means It most likely wasn't a wild bear to begin with.

Steve, you may know the figures but I don't think it's unusual for Bear to travel between 50 to 100 miles in search of females in Bear country.

That would be a lot of ground to cover since they just got up and moving but you never know. In may area we have had more and more sightings so I would agree that it is not out of the realm of possiblilies for this bear to be wild all be it slight. What is the difference in milage from known bear areas in that region? If it is 200 miles or more I would lean towards a lose captive bear.
