Hows everyone fairing the junk economic times right now?

Since this is a bowhunting forum, how about asking hows everyone fairing the junk economic times right now in relation to purchasing bowhunting products? :)

For me, I am looking to purchase another bow, buying a lazer tuning guide, arrows, sight, rest but am being cautious at this time. I'll be having my first grandchild soon so we are helping the kids out with buying stuff.....my wife loves buying baby things:eek:. I have a seemingly safe job for now and our company sales orders seem to be on par with last year, but does anyone really know what is really safe? Besides that my 401K is in the dumper at this time[:@].

Being in commissioned sales...a wee bit better than most, just because they only pay me when I make a sale. I'll have to hold back on hunting equipment, this year. I had plans of replacing EVERYTHING! Not now!A good bow and maybe some new arrows and vanes will be about it...and it will take a little while to save. [&:]

Man if your on commissioned sales you must be one hell of a salesman. If i put my salesman on comm. they wouldn't be able to get a drink of water out of the fountain at walmart.
i mean our overall sales are not down but traffic has slowed considerably.

as to new equipment. I could be broke and still try and buy stuff i dont need.

I'm pacing myself but I did pick up a new blind for turkey hunting this year.

On another topic, I ordered an 09 Harley Fat Boy and customized it. :D

Cougar, what is a laser tuning guide? Sounds interesting.

I am thinking of buying a new bow this year. My Mathews is a 2001 model, so it just seems like it is about time. These new bows just shoot so nicely it is amazing.

Well this is an easy one, :
Freshly married (I guess that makes me a family man)
paying for college
addicted to bows and everything to do with them

I dont get paid enough for all of these so I just have to set my priorities and that is pretty much their order for now. Come may the bottom will be moving up.

Cougar - yeah thats were i was headin with this. I ordered my new admiral in Dec. with the understanding it would be march/april till it was in and i had to drop coin. but it came in last week ! which is great BUT now im gonna be a bit short on some other stuff i wanted. I own a construction management firm and weve been slipping each month.

Huntingson - ive been trying to remember who had that quote on there signature for a week or better now i know. Thats what im afraid is happening slowly to america , just a bunch of sheep !

Rob - what blind did you go with i saw one last night on whatever i was watching at the time on OLN it was under 200 and had 4sided shooting , shoot through mesh , zip down windows and i believe it was 70" tall (accomodating a bowhunter nicely )

Well, I can't remember the exact name of it[X(]. Its one of those things you fasten to your bow when setting up your rest for making it quicker, easier. Guess I really don't need it, being I wouldn't use it often and got along all these years without it but it would be cool to have:D. Probably should just save some money and buy a decent bow press, I'd use it a lot more.

I still have several purchases lined up and already made a couple.

I can feel the squeeze, not sure what construction is going to do this year.

I'll probably cut my out of State hunts down a little this year, but still have a couple planned, and buy another preference point in IA.

Well, things are such that I haven't re-booked an Alberta hunt for '09![&o]:( I do have alarge chunk coming from Uncle Sam though, so maybe things might be subject to change.;) A full time job wouldn't hurt though! Things in the tree industry aren'tvery good right now. People are only getting done what HAS (storm damage ect...)to be done. Things should pick up come Spring time.:)Thankfully, I have pretty much what I need/want equipment wise though.

Makes TWO of us!!! I'm doing okay, but working as a nurse, there is always work, so I'm pretty safe in the overall realm. I'm having 11% put away for retirement, 4% by me and 7% by my employer, along with other stuff, so I'm "safe," I think. As for equipment, I just picked up a bow on the AT classified for my nephew that lives in the OP's hometown, and I'm getting ready to set it up later this week. I'd like to upgrade to an AM35, but I can wait, and that's no change from my past situation. I WOULD like to head to CO for an elk hunt, but need to find one or two OHIO guys who are willing to make the trip to make it affordable from the fuel standpoint. Any takers???

I work for the local county government and things are really bad. We are downsizing by approximately 30%-35% so that means people have already begun to loose their jobs. A guy that works relief for us just lost his job and just purchased a home with his wife and kids 6 months ago. A couple of people that work for me are facing losing their jobs in the upcoming months. I am thankful to have a job and I will do whatever it takes to keep for my family. My wife's current position in the school system may be on the chopping block, but she has 10 years in so I believe she will be protected. Our county government is $39 million in debt and the school system is $50 million in debt. We are in trouble.

So I will continue to drive my beat up truck and not buy anything.

Times are so tough in my hometown that they are flying over and dropping bottles of prozac.:D

I'm in carpentry and I would like to be doing some spec. log homes. I'm scared to build right now. Lots of forclosed homes being sold on the court house steps. I would like to buy one and resell but banks aren't lending so I'm afraid I might get stuck with it. I'm like a plane circling the airport waiting to land and hoping I don't run out of gas before things open up.

My job seems safe right now I work in the fast food industry (McDonalds) andit seems to be doing good yet. I plan on buying new broadheads and a new release this year and maybe another treestand. I was going to get a new bow but bought my wife a new diamond wrap for her wedding ring instead.

I'll match anyone's price and go above and beyond to get a sale. I'd rather sell at $100 less than the advertised price than lose a $6000 sale!

The main thing is to remember that those people are visitng you for a reason, and it's not to window shop. Offer excellent customer service, to every single customer, and more often than not, you'll get the sale.

I hope to remain fortunate as my job & the misses are both in stable industries and look to weather these rough economic times. I've not cut back my spending attitudes. That said I don't have much to get for the coming year. A new sight for my old bow& rest for the new bow is still yet to be purchased.

Graduated with an engineering degree in December. Had a good paying job lined up out of school but the plant I was going to work for had a temporary closing due to demand and I lost my job.

Looking for an entry level job in metallurgical engineering in this area is proving to be quite difficult.

I'm planning on starting back at school and getting my MBA so that I have a more marketable set of degrees and hopefully the job market will be closer to normal when I'm done.

As for hunting gear I'll wait til my birthday...no purchases for me! Besides I have everything I need anyway.;)

Lucky for me, m boss has had the company running without debt for years now. We are in position to weather the storms. We just came off our best show season in recent years. People are starting to want American made goods again and that's a plus.

Magic unfortunate for you but fortunate for the foreclosures are on a rise and I just picked one up. Purchased a 2000 sq ft brick home with an external 1000 sq ft finished mother in law suite and almost 2 acres for less than 100g's.

As for my job, I work at the home office for the second largest home improvement retailer, Lowe's and business is extremely down. My job is somewhat safe as I save the company over 8 million just in day to day activities and forecast for close to 2 billion in sales. But no ones safe right now.

I work in the financial business, 100% commission as well. Things have slowed down somewhat as a whole due to the economy, however I happen to be very lucky in that the 2 companies I workwith aredoing very well,so I am pretty busy. In fact, if any of you have a background in sales or finance, and are in need....send me a pm, I might have an opportunity you.

One word of advice....if you have money in the stock market (IRA's, 401k's, etc) I would move it to a cash position as quickly as you can (don't liquidate it, just move it to cash). I dont have the crystal ball, butall indicators point towards a DOW of 6000 or even less before we are done. That means if you don't stop the bleeding now, you will be down another 25% from where you are now. Most of you know that you've probably lost 40%or moreduring the past year....that means you need to earn 65-70% just to get back to where you were (at a 40% loss). Likely? Not anytime soon with the stock market, maybe not in most of our lifetimes - and thats if the market bottomed today. Honestly, I'm worried about what most folks will do....they get VERY poor financial advice for the most part. Times are tough, but they are gonna get tougher before its over...unfortunately.

As far as the economy and my personal spending....it probably won't affect me too much, but I am pretty stingy with what Ibuy each year anyhow. I'd rather invest it for the future, and with some of the investments I have paying strong double digits per year (even in this economy), that sure beats spending it on frivolous stuff that I didn't really need anyhow. My wife calls me the scrooge...LOL, I call myself "thrifty". Hey she hasn't had to work in 13 years, she shouldn't complain, right [8D]

I've been doing just about the same as before. Getting ready to buy a new home. I've found a nice money stream of selling wood. I sell a cord for 160 bucks to folks in Kansas City. It has all but paid my Colorado elk bowhunting trip in September so far.

That's cheap for a cord of wood! They're getting $200 a cord(hardwood) in my area of Pa.

Well we cut wood in a rural area where they are only getting 60 bucks for a cord. Most folks there cut there own wood I guess. The running rate around KC is about 150 bucks. We charge a little extra if they want a whole bunch of hedge/osage orange. Regardless, it is a good workout and puts a little money toward my extra curricular activities. With buying a new home every bit helps! Too bad we didn't have those PA prices. We have a guy who wants 9 cord of wood for the remainder of this year and next! That would be a nice chunk of change.
