Rubber boots or leather for scent control?
 

Do you prefer rubber boots or leather boots for scent control while bow hunting, taking into consideration that a deer is possibly smelling the ground where you walked in, or the wind is blowing from you to a deer, which would you rather be waring?

no doubt about it...rubber all the way!

i can smell my leather boots when i enter the room they are in from the oils i put on them....plus, they are pure leather..no liner or anything....leather is very breathable...your stinky feet are going to stink up the woods....i noticed a big difference in deer winding me and sightings overall once i quit wearing leather boots to the stand....

but, your rubber boots need taken care of...they need to be clean and scent free....new ones have their own smell...i dont have trouble walking the smell right off of them....but once bow season rolls around, i wear them bowhunting, spary them down, back in the bin they go with the clothes and the rest of my stuff...

A year ago, I would have said that leather boots were akin to high treason when bowhunting. But, now, I feel differently. If you treat your leathers like any of your other scent free clothing then you are fine. This season I wore both rubber and leather, and never had my tracks detected. My boots live in a box with leaves on the bottom, never get worn in the car or anywhere else. I have huge feet (Size 17) and can't find any rubbers with insulation, so I need to wear my leather boots when it gets cold. Thusly, I have had to make absolutely sure that i keep them scent free just like the rubbers. I have had the same rubber boots for 4 years now, and the bottoms still smell just like the day I bought them. Not sure how that is possible, but I still don't get detected. Spray down, don't step in gasoline, and I think you're ok. If my feet stink bad enough for a deer to wind me from the odor coming out of my boots, I guess bowhunting isn't for me!

I prefer Rubber. Lacrosse Burlys either uninsulated, 800's, or 1200's depending on weather;)

I hate the feel of rubber boots. I generally walk in a good distance to my hunting spots and rubber boots don't offer much support. That being said, I still know that rubber boots are a lot better at eliminating scent left on the ground. I have had deer cut my tracks while wearing rubber boots and barely flinch, whereas they have cut my tracks with leather boots and froze up. If I could find a comfortable pair of rubber boots that offered great arch support, I would buy them in a second.

Do a search...there was a huge debate on this a couplemonths ago, lots of good opinions.

I have not seen much of a difference either way personally...been busted with both, and not busted with both.

I wear rubber boots. I wear them turkey hunting too, where I can walk miles in a day[&:]. No complaints from me though, I won't ever switch unless I'm going on a trip out west.

That's about the only time I hunt in leather boots is when I'm out West, walking most of the day. Spot & Stalk is a different game.;)

Same here Mike! I kind of gave up on all the hype with rubber boots. One day when I went Into my basement where I store my boots and hunting clothes I went to grab my knee high rubber boots and that good old rubber boot smell smacked me right In the nose. I stopped and thought about It and said to myself "The heck with these things, they stink"!! However though my dad wears LL Beans boots that are mostly made of rubber but not 100% a rubber boot. From what I can tell they don't have no smell at all of rubber. I will be buying these boots In the future for myself as there also a very comfortable boot and you can also feel the ground better when walking which In turn will make you quieter In the woods when walking, specially spot and stalk hunting.

If you really want to eliminate your ground trail go with Elimitrax.

Personally in cooler weather for stand huntingI prefer the Rubber boots for warmth. 1200's for me.

How many ever wore the Mickey Mouse boots? Now those will keep the feet Warm!;)
