I've been a life member of the Pa. State Archery Assoc since 1975. I've been a life member of the United Bowhunter's of Pa. since about 1993.
Bowhunters are an apathetic group, thinking nothing will ever happen to infringe upon their chosen sport. Somebody has to look after the cookie jar or the ANTI's will certainly get their way.
Frankly I find it kind of disappointing that with a state of approximately 300,000 bowhunters there are less than 10,000 that see a need to join an organization that looks after their hunting priviliges.

The sad part is a membership in most cases means nothing but a window sticker and a newsletter for 20.00.
How manymembers stay up on the issues that are being put on ballots? How many members normally carry petitions around to be signed or attend department meetings to voice opinions? What initiatives are being worked on right now in your state? Which ones missed by a margin this time? Guess what, if you don't find out now, it may be too late as it could pass on the next go around and change everything that you have ever known.
Joining your state organization is only the first step, it is every member and non members responsibility to keep in touch with reality AND COMMUNICATE!!!! Just because you join an organization doesn't mean that you have done your part and can prove it by your fancy window sticker....................
I encourage everyone to visit their game departments website at least once a month to find out what is new and what is not..... Ask questions if you are not sure and take part in open discussion.
Someone should do a poll to find out who has spoken with a biologist, department representative, blm comissioner, etc etc to find out how laws are going to effect the way we do things. Often times the biggest whiners are the ones who had no idea that this issue was open for discussion for the past two years....I would be willing to bet that there is something going on in each and every state right now that is a detriment to what you do, and most have no clue.............

Excellent post Chad!!!! And If anyone Is wondering, yes I go farther then just paying my dues. I've been to meetings, voiced my opinion, voted numerous times on Issues, etc. The biggest downfall with MBI In Mn Is lack of support from members. Members paying there due's Isn't a problem, It's the work that goes Into It and the help needed Is the problem. A few people can't run the show.

In Wisconsin's defense, gun season isn't until the weekend before Thanksgiving. Ususally that is at the end of the rut at best depending on the calender year.

NOPE!!! I did forabout 15 years here in Michigan and then the bickeringstarted and if you don't shoot trad. you suck attitude and then theres thethey want baiting and I think it is or was one of the number one problems with Michigan. Then just because I want to see more big bucks in Michigan I am a horn porn guy and after you get called names for years you just finally say have a nice day guys!!! Go shoot your spike horns and forkies and I will go spend my money in illinois where they get it!! Walt

There is an early muzzleloader season in the middle of October and a late muzzleloader season after the second shotgun seasons. The early season is limited to 7,500 tags. Party hunting (shooting deer and tagging it with someone esle's tag) is not allowed during the muzzleloader seasons but is allowed during shotgun.
And back to the thread topic, I am a member of the http://www.iowabowhunters.org/ and did attend a lobby function once. There has been lots of crazy legislation introduced lately that will radically alter the hunting climate in Iowa for ALL hunters. The IBA is active in attempting to moderate this legislation. I will probably become more active in the future.
