Bowhunters hunting
In contrast to the "Archery Snipering" post; What's the closest killing shot you've made on a critter with your bow and what kind of critter?
Mine was the only turkey that I've taken with the bow. He came out from behind a tree that I was using as a blind (already at full draw) at about the length of an arrow shaft and lost his head in the deal. |
RE: Bowhunters hunting
My closest shot on a deer was 6ft. from the base of the tree...I was 6ft off the ground.
|
RE: Bowhunters hunting
14-15 yards on a Pronghorn buck. Deer wise, My doe was around 23, and buck was around 17-18. Only three bowkills to date.
Well, I guess I could count the Stingray I shot directly down...and several gar/carp/bigheads/catfish shot at less than an arrows distance..but bowfishing is different. |
RE: Bowhunters hunting
My closest kill to date was a buck a few years back. I shot him at 8 yards.
|
RE: Bowhunters hunting
My first deer. A doe at seven yards with me on the ground.
|
RE: Bowhunters hunting
My first Bull Elk, around 10 yds. It was awesome! I admitt I was a little scared!
|
RE: Bowhunters hunting
Deer, 3 yards.
I once tried a finishing shot on a woodchuck. I walked up to the angrybutmostlyimmobile critter, drew my bow and shot down at him from about a foot away. It wassummer. I was wearing a lightweight t-shirt. My bow was 44" axle to axle. ....I just about gave myself a field masectomy. Dang that hurt. I had the mostawesome bruise that I couldn't show anyone. [:-] |
RE: Bowhunters hunting
Doe last year...16yds.
|
RE: Bowhunters hunting
whitetail doe 8 yards
|
RE: Bowhunters hunting
A buck from the 2004 season. He was within two feet of the tree I was in (I was 13ft up), in fact he was chewing on my pull rope when the arrow entered him.
|
RE: Bowhunters hunting
The first deer I ever shot, a buck, I killed from 1-2 yards...almost straight down(bad bad decision on my part). I've killed several other deer at 10 yards or less which makes me very happy as compared to long range shots.
|
RE: Bowhunters hunting
7 yards on a doe (from the ground) and a buck at 8 yards.
|
RE: Bowhunters hunting
The Buck I killed this year was at 10 yards, 2 other deer in the past I have killed at about 12 yards. I also killed a Doe with the shotgun from 12 feet away 2 years ago!

ORIGINAL: HNI_Christine Deer, 3 yards. I once tried a finishing shot on a woodchuck. I walked up to the angry but mostly immobile critter, drew my bow and shot down at him from about a foot away. It was summer. I was wearing a lightweight t-shirt. My bow was 44" axle to axle. ....I just about gave myself a field masectomy. Dang that hurt. I had the most awesome bruise that I couldn't show anyone. [:-] Holy smokes!! [:-] That brought a tear to my eye! I've been around archery for quite a while and have witnessed this occurrence a couple of times. Usually it happens to women that are relatively new to archery and hopefully it is a lifetime learning experience! :D Ya gotta feel bad for them when it happens. Anyway, I've shot deer at 3 or 4 yards before. |

RE: Bowhunters hunting
On the ground I shot a doe at like 6-8 steps, she was close, my buddy and I were sitting in a depression using a shrub/tree as backdrop on the edge of a wheatfield, there were about 5 or 6 does that actually came out to the wheat and circled behind us at 6-8 yrds, our whole intention was for him to get a deer but he couldnt get the shot off because he was set up to shoot into the wheat, lucky for me I was just the opposite, it was deer #4 with a bow for me, a yearling doe and I was dang proud of her.
From a tree, I shot a doe this year at about 8 yards it was the shot I picture when I think about a perfect opportunity. |
RE: Bowhunters hunting
I was on the ground on a drive, and I arrowed a 2.5 years old buck at 2 yards, first deer ever, most exciting hunt.
