RE: have you ever been attacked by an animal.

I can only remember one near miss.

I was out Pheasant hunting with my dad and 2 other guys. We had dads shorthair pointer with us. Which I must say was one of the best bird dogs in the county when she was alive. While we were in the grass field, about 3' tall, the dog starts acting all funny. She went on point then I would go to flush and she would move. Well she did this 3 or 4 times. The last time she did it, I started to walk up to flush this bird and up jumps a decent sized 8 or 10 point buck. Well I was only about 5 foot from him and when he jumped up he was heading my way. In 5 foot he was still trying to figure out what was going on and I was trying to figure out which way to dive. Luckily I picked the right way and he took off, running right at one of the other guys on his escape. He had to end up jumping up and down waving his arms so he didn' t get run over. He ended up turning in another direction about 15' from him.

We all laughed for a few minutes.

That is about it except for the occasional kamakazi squirrels running down the tree at my head or the occasional hawk landing in the tree with me. THat will scare the crap out of you. You don' t even know they are there until they hit the tree.

I forgot about my fishing adventure as a kid. I was fishing in a neighbor' s pond when his goose attacked me. He chased me and made a final lunge that had his head come between my legs as he snapped his beak, barely missing the family jewels. We had a snake drop out of a tree onto someone' s head in our boat once.

Raccons couple times-Bull once & in the last few months, Wild Boars 3 times-each Boar finally succumed to a Rocky Mountain 3 Blade. 1 Boar made a tatal of 6 charges (not bluffs) & another made 2-his 2nd was after he had been double lunged. BuT-If your going to Bowhunt Boars-this is going to happen sometime or other.

RE: have you ever been attacked by an animal.

I was walking down this old logging road to my spot one morning about an hour before light. It is light enough from the moonlight that I' m not using my flashlight. I see something small and white moving on the trail ahead of me. First I figure its a piece of paper or some kind of trash blowing in the wind. Then I realize its not windy today. I freeze and grab my light out of my pocket and turn it on. It' s a small animal black and white SKUNK oh no and he is only about 15 yards ahead of me. He stops and turns and looks at me and I' m thinking I have my treestand and a pack on my back and I' m carrying my bow and I' m not sure how fast a skunk can run. Then he just turns and starts walking down the trail away from me.

I keep my light on him and start following real slow keeping about 15 yards behind him. I really want to get to my tree before light and I still have a good ways to go. He is walking real slow and I' m thinking hurry up you little stinker or at least get off the path. He stops and looks back at me so I stop. He starts walking away again so I keep following. This goes on for a couple minutes then he stops again, so I stop. I' m still keeping him in my light because I dont want to loose track of him. He starts walking away again so I keep following. Then he stops again and turnes around and CHARGES me. I must have stood there in shock with my mouth open for about 1 second. By now he is only about 7 or 8 yards away and coming fast.

After that everything happened in a blur. First you should know that I fear no man or beast. I wildly twirled around and blindly jumped off the trail right into a patch of stickers getting helplessly tangled up and I dropped my light. But you better believe I held onto my bow. By now I figure the skunk must be right on top of me so I let out a tremendous roar like a bear. Anyone around would have probably said it sounded more like a scream of terror and panic. Scared every deer for a half mile.

By the time I picked up my light and got untangled I realized that I am bleeding from my face and my arms but at least I dont smell any skunk spray. Never saw that stinkin' skunk again.

It was getting light by the time I settled into my tree.

I don' t know if this qualifies as an attack, but it' s funny as hell.
Just yesterday, my wife, 2yr old boy and me came home after watching my dad shoot in the senior olympics. My son fell asleep on the way back so my wife opened the door to the house so I could carry him back to his bed. I got back to his room and layed him down, right about that time my wife called my name, I asked what, and she said " I think there' s a snake in the house." [:o] So, I walked back into the living room and saw my wife backed up in the corner looking scared. I asked " where is it?" She pointed to the middle of the living room, so I looked down and sure enough there was a 12" baby copperhead with its head up stareing right at her. I said " yep, thats a snake." [:-] At, this point she decides to go ballistic! Screaming, crying, shaking. So, I said " just don' t move" . But, she was too hesteric to even answer. I went back to my hunting gear room, got my maschette[>:], went back in the living and they were still stareing each other down. I then made mince meat of the baby snake. [:-]
I' ve been having to look under everything my wife walks by ever since.[X(]

A house cat, a parrot, two wild dogs, and a cow. By far the worst was the house cat as I was only about 7 years old.
I was waiting on the bus and all of a sudden " thud" on my back pack and all I can hear is screeching and growling so I reach over my shoulder grab a handfull of hair and gave the da*n orange furball a good toss. when it lands it just ran off. It was weird.

RE: have you ever been attacked by an animal.

Last year while mule deer hunting, I was walking up a narrow drainage . I bumped a deer. I froze for a few minutes. Then continued up the trail. I heard some movement ahead and to the left. I kncked an arrow. Waited. Then heard the sound to my right. Still waiting. Then heard a rock roll over just a few yards away. Now I was starting to get a little nervous. Still waiting. And waiting no sounds. So I went to where i heard the last sounds and found mountain lion tracks. Now I am really nervous. I pick up a stick and beat the bushes till I was out of breath. I turned around and went back to camp.

A friend of mine had a closer encounter about 10 years ago again he had bumped a deer and saw the mountain lion crouched down about 10 yards from him. Luckly the cat moved off. He would not go back to that area the rest of the season.

Have I ever been attacked................. luckly NO
