I just got bad news (update#2 pg 1)
My son, Nick was playing tackle football and he tackled some big guy and the guy landed onNick's left side and ruptured my son's spleen. He is in intensive care and they are going to give his spleen a chance to heal. If it won't heal they will remove it. The next three days will tell what happens.
UPDATE: Nick is doing much better today. He is in less pain and he got his video games hooked up to the hospital TV:eek::D. The doctor said his blood work shows that he isn't bleeding internally anymore and that is a good sign that he may not need surgery. I feel so much better now. Not much sleep last night! I am overwelmed by the response from all of you! Thanks for all the kind words and prayers! Update 2: Nick is healing great. no surgery necessary! He is walking around and will probably go home on Monday. Doc says 3 months without contact sports. He can't wait to play football again. He is looking forward to getting back to school, he has a 4.0 GPA and doesn't want to let his grades drop. Thank you all so very much for the kind words and prayers. That means more to me then I can express with words. Here's a pic of him on our last fishing trip  |

a year ago i was in your son's shoes. i had a bad atv roll over and i had to spend 48 hours in icu. i coudn't drink or eat for a whole 24 hours, the doctors did not take my speen out. but i wasnt allowed to do eny thing physical for 6 months. so i hope for the best.

Good luck and remember the body's innate ability to heal itself is amazing. Remember back when you where young and look at what you've heeled from?! Let us know in a few days, but I'm sure he will be just fine. |

hope he gets well soon one time i was doing the same thing but i actually hurt the other kid when i tackeled him i dislocated his knee or something so he couldnt go a this big trip i felt pretty bad[:@][&o]

Kudos to Nick for taking on the big guy. Sounds like he has a lot of heart, enough to make up for a bruised spleen. I'll have a good thought for your son.

Prayers for Nick and you too Todd. Sometimes it's more trying on the family than the one that's injured. Spleen ruptures can often times be deal with in a non-surgical manner, rest, and close monitoring, fluids (IV) and maybe even a little blood if absolutely needed, but a ruptured spleen doesn't always equal surgery fortunately. God is watching over him, and I am sure if surgery is needed, God will also guide those doctor's hands in making Nick better!!! Good Luck and keep us updated when you can.
